Pickpick

This was an informative Middle Grade novella about a Muslim girl‘s struggle to think of something interesting about her mother to share at school for International Women‘s Day. There is a lot of information about why Islamic women choose to wear hijab, and the different kinds of them. I‘d say this is a good addition to a diverse middle grade library.

Read for #BBRC, middle grade under 150 pages.

Mehso-so

Telling the story of a young girl learning why her mother chose to wear the hijab and what it means to Muslim women, this book is a great resource for teaching children about hijab in a way that they can understand. It combats many misconceptions non-Muslims have about the hijab, and it does so in a respectful and positive tone. Although I enjoyed reading this short novel, the writing did feel a bit clunky at times. #diversebooks #muslimbooks
