#MindExpansion @bookcollecter

"Jimmy Carter actually took the course himself--and reportedly achieved a 1,200 word-per-minute reading rate, with high comprehension"(7).

"More than 95% of college-bound high school seniors lack the necessary reading skills to enable them to succeed in their college, business, and professional lives, according to a recent D.O.E. study"(8).

jb72 That sounds interesting. 5y
bookcollecter @jb72 I think you would enjoy 5y

This was fun! I did the test three times, and this is actually the lowest of my three scores. I don‘t usually think of myself as a super-speedy reader, but I‘m clearly a faster reader than I thought. 🤓

Would you like to try? https://m.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/technology-research-centers/ereaders/spe...

MayJasper Ha. I am a national average speed reader 6y
BookInMyHands 530, but I don‘t read non-fiction that fast! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Wow! Go you! 6y

DivaDiane I have not been disavowed of my understanding that I am a slow reader. 4% slower than the national average (the second time I took the test - the first time 12% slower!!). I‘m not too bothered my retention is good, which helped in college. I only needed to read texts once, where my fellows read everything multiple times. (edited) 6y
4ravens 504, but it depends on the reading material. Research papers slow me down. 6y
rwmg Access denied ☹😢 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @rwmg Maybe try from another computer or device. It‘s still working for me. 😰 6y
rwmg @BarbaraTheBibliophage Still can't. It must deny access to foreign ISPs 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @rwmg That stinks. 😭 6y
2BR02B 359. I'm 44% faster than the national average, but probably much slower than the average Litten. 😅 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MayJasper 👋🏻 Average is good! It‘s all great when you‘re reading! (edited) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BookInMyHands Wow! For me, it depends on the book in any genre. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DivaDiane I think there‘s a lot to be said for retention, certainly when in school. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4ravens Go you! I‘ll be slower for anything boring, until I decide to give in and skim. 😜 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @2BR02B I‘ll bet our reading speeds vary widely in the Litsy community. It‘s all good when we‘re reading! 6y
DivaDiane @rwmg I was able to access it and I‘m in the UK, unless the UK have got some special status... 6y
4ravens @BarbaraTheBibliophage I did a speed reading course many years ago, where they also tested retention rate - very useful for studying, not so helpful when reading for pleasure. 6y
