The Romance of Certain Old Bones | Holly Messinger

The first Trace and Boz adventure! Five years before the eerie events of THE CURSE OF JACOB TRACY, Jacob and his new trail partner, John Bosley, take a job leading a pack of paleontologists out to the Badlands near Hell Creek, Montana, to dig for the bones of extinct monsters. It's a dangerous job; not only is the area home to warring tribes of Indians, but a rival camp of bone-diggers is right across the creek and some of them may be willing to commit murder to score a scientific coup. But what worries Jacob most are the voices he hears in the rocks. They call to the dangerous psychic power in him, reminding Jacob that the past is never entirely dead, and anything that has slept for eons is bound to wake up hungry...

I loved the The Curse of Jacob Tracy, and I‘m very much looking forward to book 2 late this year. This little gem is a prequel to the series, and did not disappoint. Lots of action, the beginning of the Trace/Boz friendship, monsters, spirits, Native American legends, and some old-west archeology.

A quick, fun read for my #novella choice for #ReadingWomenChallenge.

Needed a familiar world to relax me after a morning of moving into a house that's still not ready to fully move in to.

Chose this "Curse of Jacob Tracy" prequel to read while the boyfriend's watching WWE's Royal Rumble. We're staying at my parents' for (hopefully only) a few days while the contractors finish. ???

Another great take on the "paranormal Western" genre you don't know you need until you find it.
