Brimstone | Cherie Priest
10 posts | 6 read | 21 to read
A new dark historical fantasy from the “supremely gifted”* Cherie Priest, author of Mapelcroft and Boneshaker. In the trenches of Europe during the Great War, Tomás Cordero operated a weapon more devastating than any gun: a flame projector that doused the enemy in liquid fire. Having left the battlefield a shattered man, he comes home to find yet more tragedy—for in his absence, his wife has died of the flu. Haunted by memories of the woman he loved and the atrocities he perpetrated, Tomás dreams of fire and finds himself setting match to flame when awake.... Alice Dartle is a talented clairvoyant living among others who share her gifts in the community of Cassadaga, Florida. She too dreams of fire, knowing her nightmares are connected to the shell-shocked war veteran and widower. And she believes she can bring peace to him and his wife’s spirit. But the inferno that threatens to consume Tomás and Alice was set ablaze centuries ago by someone whose hatred transcended death itself.... *Christopher Golden, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author From the Trade Paperback edition.

Pickpick

I may not have managed to finish #4in48readathon, but I did finish this and that makes four books finished this weekend! I quite enjoyed this, partly because I came to love sad, gentle Tomàs and girlish, determined, loving Alice. I also enjoyed that they didn't get together, and i think I quite like the way it ended -- with not everything fixed, but hope for the future.

I've read quite a few books so far this year (41 to be precise - thanks, Litsy!) and this one deserves a spot among the very best. Excellent writing, engaging protagonists and a wonderful thread of irreverent humor throughout: I loved this book and can't wait to read more of this author's work. All the ✨

I had a lot of fun with Brimstone! If you liked her The Family Plot then this is worth checking out! So in 1920s Florida in Cassadaga, a spiritualist camp (that really exists!) It follows two awesome characters in Alice and Tomas. Alice is a clairvoyant a s Tomas is haunted by fire. Mrs. Priest as always captures the setting wonderfully! Really recommend it!

BekahPat You have total sold me on this title! 7y
Sarrie @BekahPat Haha! Good! It has a little bit of a thin plot toward the end but the characters sold it for me. I really enjoyed them 7y

Having a gruesome week so unwinding with a gin/English breakfast tea and citrus cocktail and Cherie Priest's newest. Both are uh-mah-zing.

#seasonsreadings2016 #day28 #lastbookyoustacked This was the last book I've stacked, can't really remember why anymore. Maybe I should've gone with the 2nd last book which was LadykillersVol2, which sounds fantastic! I have so many #blameitonlitsy books on my shelves, one of the changes I'd love to see on Litsy is the ability to link straight to bookdepository.com or Amazon from the book info page, though that's also a good way to go broke!

ChasingOm I feel like I saw the Brimstone cover recently -- maybe on NetGalley? 🤔 7y
