Five Give Up the Booze
Five Give Up the Booze | Bruno Vincent
4 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Enid Blyton's books are beloved the world over and The Famous Five have been the perennial favourite of her fans. Now, in this new series of Enid Blyton for Grown-Ups, George, Dick, Anne, Julian and Timmy confront a new challenge: give up the booze. Give up alcohol you say? Why, of course they can! Talk about an easy challenge! Five old friends set about this simple task and find all of a sudden that: the days are longer; they get to see each other for who they really are; the empty laughter of ordinary conversation is so much harder to fake. Yes, they're saving money and losing weight, but the world itself seems to take on a slow, dreary inevitability. Soon they begin to snap at each other, and then fight - until they begin to wonder, have the Five at last found the challenge that will defeat them? The perfect gift for anyone who has woken up and promised themselves that they will never drink again. Or at least until next weekend.

This series is absolutely hilarious! I‘ve just read the bottom one and now about to read the top. I‘m definitely going to buy the rest of the series when I‘ve finished these ones!

I love reading the Famous Five series when I was young, but these Famous Five editions for grownups are supposed to be funny? 🤷‍♀️

Sarah83 I didn't read the books, when I was young, but I wanted to try the tagged book. I didn't like it, but perhaps it was because of the subject. 6y
Cinfhen Somehow these type of reads don‘t work as spoof 🙄 6y

Should I worry that Father Christmas is trying to tell me something? Looking forward to some light festive reading.

Gotta collect them all 😂

Sarah83 Are they the adult edition? 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Sarah83, modern day parodies... with original illustrations. I've read Five Go Gluten Free and Five Go Parenting - so far and they've been a fun, short read. 7y
Sarah83 Sounds pretty entertaining 😉 7y
