Sunset Park
Sunset Park: A Novel | Paul Auster
5 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
Luminous, passionate, expansive, an emotional tour de force Sunset Park follows the hopes and fears of a cast of unforgettable characters brought together by the mysterious Miles Heller during the dark months of the 2008 economic collapse. An enigmatic young man employed as a trash-out worker in southern Florida obsessively photographing thousands of abandoned objects left behind by the evicted families. A group of young people squatting in an apartment in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The Hospital for Broken Things, which specializes in repairing the artifacts of a vanished world. William Wyler's 1946 classic The Best Years of Our Lives. A celebrated actress preparing to return to Broadway. An independent publisher desperately trying to save his business and his marriage. These are just some of the elements Auster magically weaves together in this immensely moving novel about contemporary America and its ghosts. Sunset Park is a surprising departure that confirms Paul Auster as one of our greatest living writers.

arubabookwoman @CarolynM @BarbaraBB @Liz_M Hi you guys. Thanks for checking on me. Everything‘s fine, just busy moving and getting organized. We moved into our new condo Saturday, and after 1 1/2 years no longer “in transit.” Will post a pic of Dante soon. For today, another sunset and maybe books. 3y
CarolynM Good news🙂 Happy housewarming🌿🌱🌸 (I like to give plants as housewarming gifts, these emojis will have to do😂) 3y

February 3rd is the birthday of Paul Auster. I‘ve read many of his books ,not all. I love the New York Trilogy,I talk it up & give away my copy. Smoke , made in 1995 , was a Paul Auster screenplay & is one of my favorite films. I should have posted this nearer Christmas,as Angie Wrens Christmas story is a scene within the film that is a very cool Christmas tale.Plus , Harvey Keitel is an actor I adore. This film , a love letter to Brooklyn.

Billypar I will have to try Smoke- I remember almost watching it but I think I was worried that Auster's style wouldn't work in film. Harvey Keitel is such a fun actor to watch. 5y
Leftcoastzen @Billypar It‘s a bookish film if you know what I mean.Quirky and odd .It is a favorite of mine and I think you might enjoy it. 5y
RealBooks4ever I‘d forgotten all about Smoke! I did enjoy watching that and need to revisit it! 💜 5y
