If I Built a Car
If I Built a Car | Chris Van Dusen
2 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
If I built a car, it'd be totally new! Here are a few of the things that I'd do. . . . Young Jack is giving an eye-opening tour of the car he'd like to build. There's a snack bar, a pool, and even a robot named Robert to act as chauffeur. With Jack's soaring imagination in the driver's seat, we're deep-sea diving one minute and flying high above traffic the next in this whimsical, tantalizing take on the car of the future. Illustrations packed with witty detail, bright colors, and chrome recall the fabulous fifties and an era of classic American automobiles. Infectious rhythm and clever invention make this wonderful read-aloud a launch pad for imaginative fun.

I don‘t usually add children‘s books to my list of read books but since my 4 year old has had me read this one to him about 1000 times this month, I think I‘ll add it. 😄 He‘s all about cars so I knew he‘d love this one but it‘s also one I enjoy reading to him aloud. I‘m a sucker for kids books that have a rhythm when read aloud (like Dr. Seuss). #childrensbook

Gissy How you were not going to add that happy face photo?😍I think you can have a record on how many more time you still have to read that book☺️Enjoy!😉 5y
Aswenson That‘s a fun one! Admittedly, I have occasionally read the last 4 lines only on some of the pages to get through it quicker. 😉 5y
Graywacke What a smile! My son loved this book too. 5y

TheAromaofBooks Oh, your son may also enjoy this book by Daniel Pinkwater. My nieces loved it when they were his age because of all the funny words. It's an old Reading Rainbow book, too, so it may even sound vaguely familiar haha 5y
I_Like_Big_Books @TheAromaofBooks Oh, this one looks great. I‘ll have to get it for him!! Thank you!! 5y

If I Built a Car is written and illustrated by Chris Van Dusen is a great F for a RA even won the E.B. Web Read Aloud Award in 2006. This is a great book about a boy‘s imagination on how he thinks his father‘s car should change, to having a pool, to being able to fly, float and dive. There are so many different areas of curriculum one could use this book with. My link is a science link. I would use EL 41 having students compile notebooks

HNager with their hypothesis, materials, procedures and conclusion. The UDL is 9.3 develop self-assessment and reflection on the activity I would have them do with the book. Activity I would allow the students to make hypothesis of how far their cars would go: https://teachbesideme.com/if-i-built-a-car-activities/ #ucflae3414f17 6y
Jbombardiere This book looks like one most boys and even some girls would love! Super different and cute, can‘t wait to check I️t out myself! 6y
