Paint It Black
Paint It Black: A Novel | Janet Fitch
Josie Tyrell, art model, teen runaway, and denizen of LA's 1980 punk rock scene, finds a chance at real love with art student Michael Faraday. A Harvard dropout and son of a renowned pianist, Michael introduces her to his spiritual quest and a world of sophistication she had never dreamed existed. But when she receives a call from the Los Angeles County Coroner, asking her to identify her lover?s dead body, her bright dreams all turn to black. As Josie searches for the key to understanding his death, she finds herself both repelled and attracted to Michael's pianist mother, Meredith, who holds Josie responsible for her son's torment. Soon, the two women find themselves drawn into a twisted relationship reflecting equal parts distrust and blind need. Passionate, wounded, fiercely alive, Josie Tyrell walks the brink of her own destruction as she fights to discover the meaning of Michael's death. With the luxurious prose and emotional intensity that are her hallmarks, Janet Fitch has written a spellbinding new novel about love, betrayal, and the possibility of transcendence.

Excellent! I've read it like 4 times in my life and suggest it for anyone. This girls artist boyfriend kills himself at a motel. She wonders why, how he could do this to her to himself. It goes through her quest for answers, displaying their love story and his personal demons. Also that instead of being the poor art student that shops at thrift stores isn't that at all...

My favourite quote of all time.
“How right that the body changed over time, becoming a gallery of scars, a canvas of experience, a testament to life and one‘s capacity to endure it.”

Your body and it‘s imperfections tell your story. Own them, love them 🖤

The Ceiling coming in, crushing them all like cockroaches. The screaming, the weight on top of you, too heavy to breathe, and then it would be over. Saving her the the trouble of having to inhale and exhale, thousand of times a day every. Every person, every cow, every dying dog, everyone on this planet, breathing this same tired old air. She wanted it all to stop!

Life was just a factory of days and weeks and years, and for what, when you knew how the story turned out, what the product was at the end? She wouldn't mind if the whole place went up in flames right this second. All of them immolated together, their ashes mingling in the smoldering aftermath.
