Betrayal of Trust
Betrayal of Trust: The Collapse of Global Public Health | Laurie Garrett
2 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
"Public health is a bond between a government and its people and if either side betrays that trust the system collapses like a house of cards. Garrett illustrates how over the last twenty years this trust has frayed and our global public health system systematically destroyed. With gloablization, no person is safe from antibiotic resistant superbugs, epidemic or biowar." - back cover.

In this beast of a book, Garrett examines major failures in public health around the world in a way that‘s sobering. This was published 20 years ago and we‘ve now all lived through public health failing in a way she predicted. It‘s a terrifying book and a touch to long, but excellent. (Though if she used the NYC nickname Gotham one more time, I was going to start sending her Batman cards. 🙄)

Things that terrify me: plague, epidemic, the failure of our health system. I'm such a sucker for a good nonfiction about anything medicine related.
