The Song From Somewhere Else
The Song From Somewhere Else | A.F. Harrold
7 posts | 5 read | 7 to read
Frank doesn't know how to feel when Nick Underbridge rescues her from bullies one afternoon. No one likes Nick. He's big, he's weird and he smells or so everyone in Frank's class thinks. And yet, there's something nice about Nick's house. There's strange music playing there, and it feels light and good and makes Frank feel happy for the first time in forever. But there's more to Nick, and to his house, than meets the eye, and soon Frank realises she isn't the only one keeping secrets. Or the only one who needs help ... A poignant, darkly comic and deeply moving story about the power of the extraordinary, and finding friendship where you least expect it. Written by the author of the critically acclaimed The Imaginary and illustrated by award-winning illustrator Levi Pinfold, this is perfect for fans of Roald Dahl and Neil Gaiman

Oops! Forgot to post my review of this. I've been reading MG grade recently for work-related reasons and even though it's not my favorite I can definitely say I'm enjoying myself. This is a tender story about an unconventional friendship and mixes realism and fantasy. Levi Pinfold's illustrations really bring the story to life while maintaining the dark, mysterious tone that AF Harrold uses.

ephemeralwaltz It's beautifully written while dealing with topics such as bullying, feeling like an outcast, and parenting. 5y

Haven‘t read a book in a day for a while but I started this and couldn‘t put it down. An incredible story with a strong fantasy element and the illustrations are out of this world. If you‘re looking for something a little unusual, you should definitely give this a go!
