I‘m just over here trying to read and this goof keeps finding tennis balls in the backyard.
I‘m super excited to read another Paulette Jiles, News of the World was my favorite book I read last year!

If the characters in The Road had library cards, they'd fit right in here. The main character, an orphan, grows up reading classics that give her a sense of purpose in an Orwellian, drought-choked society where people are executed on live TV for entertainment. We follow her attempt to escape the urban wasteland & reach the mythical Lighthouse Island, but it was more (for me) about the power of words to save us in the darkest times. #jilesbacklist

Nute I had no inkling that this was the synopsis for this book. Its such a different direction as far as plot line type for Paulette Jiles. Good for her. Definitely intrigued to read. 7y
LectricSheep @nute this is only my second book of hers-- I bought as much of her backlist as I could find after reading News of the World and realizing I'd never even heard of her before. The two novels actually seem surprisingly similar-- two characters on a journey through an inhospitable land. I'm looking forward to reading more of her! Do you have a favorite of hers? 7y

100 pages left and I do not have a good feeling about this lighthouse. 😦Paulette Jiles why are you toying with my emotions?! Almost finished with book 1 of my #jilesbacklist #readingadventure.

I didn't know there were that many interesting books with "lighthouse" in their titles and their covers! Some of them are nonfiction and children's books.

Have you read any of these?

christineandbooks I haven't read any of those but am particularly intrigued by the one you've tagged by Paulette Jiles.I recently read News of the World by her. This one sounds very different and really interesting! 7y
ApoptyGina69 I read Lighthousekeeping by Jeanette Winterson. I try to read all of her work. It was a solid "like", but not my favorite of hers. 7y
CocoReads @christineandbooks We tried Lighthouse Island for book group. It was universally despised, which made for an interesting discussion. Although I DNF'd it. I did like News of the World though. 7y
