Tell-All
Tell-All | Chuck Palahniuk
'Every word he's written about me is a lie including "and" and "the"...'For decades Hazie Coogan has tended to the outsized needs of Katherine 'Miss Kathie' Kenton, a star of the wattage of Elizabeth Taylor and the emotional torments of Judy Garland. The survivor of multiple marriages, career comebacks and cosmetic surgeries, Miss Kathie lives the way legends should. But danger lurks when gentleman caller Webster Carlton Westward III arrives and worms his way into Miss Kathie's heart and boudoir. Hazie discovers that this bounder has already written his celebrity tell-all memoir and that it foretells her death in a forthcoming Lillian Hellman-penned World War II musical extravaganza Unconditional Surrender, in which Miss Kathie portrays Lily defeating Japanese forces from Pearl Harbor to Nagasaki. As the body count mounts, Hazie must execute a plan to save Katherine Kenton for her fans - and for posterity...

My characters tend to be more #dynamic because they're reaching that point in their lives where their old way of being is breaking down. They're conflicted by the idea that they don't know what's next. You could call it Kierkegaard's leap of faith, when you get tired of sort of reinventing yourself on a very superficial level.
- Chuck Palahniuk

The end of that quote tho. I feel it. 🖤

This is a short read, but I liked it more than the last Palahniuk I read. It‘s pretty fun, pretty sexual and an ode to classic movie stars in a way. If you want something you can read in one or two sittings, I would say give it a go.

I tend to read one ebook and one hard copy at a time. Figured I‘d give this Palahniuk a shot despite not really being thrilled with his work since Survivor. The completist in me must finish the lineup. I‘m 36 pages in and already kinda exhausted with all the name dropping in the book but the narrative suspense keeps me plugging along.

Finished this weird-beard book. Chuck Palahnluk is not afraid to try something different. A very strange type of writing and a bit difficult to get into because of it. Definitely will need to know a lot about the old Hollywood stars with all the name dropping (which got to be too much for me), but the underlying storyline is interesting.

I LOVE Palahniuk but this book killed me inside. I gave it a valiant effort but couldn't make it through. The constant multi-name-dropping per sentence was brutal. Especially when 99% of the names meant nothing to me.
