Slow Dollar
Slow Dollar | Margaret Maron
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
A moonlit autumn night brings out half the county to fill the Tilt-O-Whirl with squealing riders and the dirt around Polly's Pitch Plate with losers' quarters. But in an air nostalgically sweet with caramel apple and spun sugar, one crooked game ends with a brutal death ... and Judge Deborah Knott will discover more than a body. For beneath the carnival's razzle-dazzle surface swirl dark secrets that Deborah has kept hidden for almost twenty years. Now as family loyalties war with the demands of the law, she must struggle to win a carny's trust-before the killer pins a bull's-eye on yet another victim.

Pickpick

@TheSpineView #SeriesRead 3⭐ a quick, easy Judge Deborah Knotts mystery. There's nothing deep or thought provoking with this series, they're just fun mysteries. Deborah is a hoot, and this time there are murders at the carnival. A nice little surprise awaits you if you've read these in order, and I'd say "about time"!

Halfway through, has anyone read this series? I started it a couple years ago, just now picked back up again. Easy reading, and I like Deborah Knotts, she's real

gradcat I have! I had forgotten about Margaret Maron—my mom and I read lots of her books—thanks for the reminder!! ♥️ 5y
Crazeedi @gradcat I know she wrote the final book for this series, I read that somewhere. 5y
gradcat She did, but I‘ll be damned if I can remember it. But you know, she had a couple of MCs before Deborah, and I believe a couple after, I think...just can‘t recall at the moment. It seems I remember one of her earlier characters being based in New York. Anyway, I liked her books...I just sort of stopped reading them a few years ago. I‘m going to have to check back in on her.... 5y

gradcat Ok, I just looked her up. Now I know why I stopped reading her: I finished both series. The first series MC is Sigrid Harald, “a loner lieutenant in the NYPD whose policeman father was killed in the line of duty when she was a toddler,” and the Judge Deborah Knott series. And that‘s that with that—mystery solved. ♥️ 5y
Susanita She also wrote a very poignant standalone: 5y
Shel.f I adored Deborah Knott. 5y
gradcat @Susanita I was wondering about that book...haven‘t read it. Is it a departure from her usual genre? And you liked it? 5y
Susanita @gradcat There are some common ideas, such as the MC lives in New York but has southern roots, but it‘s not a straight procedural. I can‘t say much more without spoiling. 5y
gradcat @Susanita Thank you for that! I‘ll check it out! 5y
Crazeedi @Susanita thanks! I'll check out this book! 5y
Andrew65 Not heard of this! 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 its a series (you know how I love them!) Set in eastern north Carolina, a woman who becomes a judge, but she's not your normal judge, she's irreverent and funny 5y
Andrew65 Will search it out. Thanks 😊 5y
