Creatures of the Night
Creatures of the Night | Neil Gaiman
16 posts | 26 read | 16 to read
From the New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman comes this collection, featuring two magical and disturbing stories lushly adapted to comics by veteran painter Michael Zulli (The Last Temptation). Rewritten by Gaiman for this graphic novel, these two ominous stories from the authors award-winning prose work Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fictions and Illusions feature animals and people not being quite what they seem. In "The Price," a black cat like a small panther arrives at a country home and is soon beset by mysterious and vicious wounds. What is he fighting every night that could do this, and why does he persist? "The Daughter of Owls" recounts an eerie old tale of a foundling girl who was left with an owl pellet as a newborn on the steps of the Dymton Church. She was soon cloistered away in a local convent, but by her fourteenth year word of her beauty had spreadand those who would prey upon her faced unforeseen consequences.

A short graphic novel containing two magical stories of creatures of the night. A glimpse of the first, The Price, pictured in the collage. The second is The Daughter of Owls. Enjoyed both! And a great way to use my last hoopla loan before July ends.

I‘m ashamed that i haven‘t read more Gaiman. This graphic novel is beautiful and brings out all my mushy feelings about cats! 😭

Johanna414 I‘ve found that I much prefer his books for children and young readers than those for adults. 6y
winemom I‘ve only read Coraline before. I might have to start giving him more space on my TBR. 🙃 6y
TricksyTails YES! YES! Read more Gaiman! 💖 I'm a major pusher for his books! You also have all the graphic novels and his narration for his audiobooks are wonderful. 6y

I preferred this one to Miss Finch. I love the story of Prince the Black Cat. Once again, the artwork was absolutely gorgeous. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Zelma That is beautiful. 😻 7y
tournevis The Price. Such a good story. Amazing. I kickstarted a film for it, but it's mostly dead, I think. Love this story. 7y

This one had two of Gaiman's short stories, one of which I don't think I've ever read before. While the art left a little to be desired, in my opinion, I thought they translated well to a visual medium and I enjoyed reading this one immensely.

This is a book of two graphic short stories by Neil Gaiman. The first made me cry. The second left me cold. It is a pick because of the first. The artwork by Michael Zulli is simply lovely.

Two Neil Gaiman short stories, "The Price" and "The Daughter of Owls," illustrated with paintings by Michael Zulli. My only complaint is that I wanted more! Fans of Through the Woods by Emily Carroll will love this. #edelweiss
