Trump
Trump: A Graphic Biography | Ted Rall
6 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
Ted Rall's Trump opens with a discussion of the authoritarian impulse. Drawing a historical parallel between the rise of Mussolini and Hitler and the aftermath of the 2008-2009 economic crisis in America, Rall considers Trump to be "a bit of an accidental authoritarian, perhaps even an accidental proto-fascist. So where did this man come from?" Trump's life story is told, going all the way back to his origins growing up a rich kid in the NY suburbs. Rall shows how Trump taps into a longing among many Americans for a strongman. He doesn't make many promises; his supporters don't expect many. He'll Make America Great Again. Somehow. Trust me, he says. And they do.

I really like Ted Rall's series on current historical figures, and this was no exception. It's a good compilation of Trump's past, his personality, and how he came to office. Rall's diagnoses of how Trump filled a vacuum that's been growing since 2007 is very compelling. Recommend!

While this book gives a good overview on Trump's past, his love life, scandals, and the lead-up to the election, be wary of the author's take. He definitely has an opinion about immigration and other issues that lean more towards Trump's views. Still an important read to know the man behind the golden curtain.

While waiting for that "being presidential" to kick in I'm enjoying this fun and informational book.

I wouldn't run out to buy this book by any means, but it was new to my library branch and grabbed it out of curiosity. I do love a good NF graphic novel and had expected this to be about how wonderful Trump is (personally I can't stand the man) but instead I got a good history of who he is, the good, the bad and the ugly...and there was definitely ugly. It also gave me a little insight as to why people are backing him for president.

BookishFeminist You are a stronger person than me, lol. I love politics but don't think I would touch non-satire about him with a 10 ft pole 😂 8y
Gayan I'm with @BookishFeminist I just couldn't do it. 8y
