Kitty Goes to Washington
Kitty Goes to Washington | Carrie Vaughn
Celebrity werewolf and late-night radio host Kitty Norville prefers to be heard and not seen. So when she's invited to testify at a Senate hearing on behalf of supernaturals, and her face gets plastered on national TV, she inherits a new set of friends, and enemies, including the vampire mistress of the city; an ber-hot Brazilian were-jaguar; and a Bible-thumping senator who wants to expose Kitty as a monster. Kitty quickly learns that in this city of dirty politicians and backstabbing pundits, everyone's itching for a fight.

Reread. Ahhh, we turn the grittyness up on this one. Kitty ends up on the stand before the Senate to talk about werewolves and vampires. Things obviously go horribly wrong and our girl goes through a huge trauma. Probably the standout line for me is when she compares what happens (I‘ll put it in the comments) to rape to which her friend and lawyers reply is “what would you know about that” - like dude. Just no.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Kitty is a werewolf, in a world where the fact that werewolves and other such creatures exist has just become public knowledge. In this book, a scientist, a fame hungry journalist and a religious zealot who happens to be a senator conspire to kidnap Kitty on the night of the full moon and to broadcast her change. Against her will. Inside a silver cage. 5y

Apologies for the radio silence, but it‘s been a bit busy here as I adjust to eastern time and a new office. But here I am on my day off on Friday touring the sights!

Libby1 Have fun! 6y
AlaMich Is it horribly humid? That is a vivid memory I have of a DC trip, the mugginess! 😓😓😓 6y
Verity @AlaMich it is ridulously humid. I do not have a wardrobe to cope with 28 degree heat and rain. It‘s terrible. 6y

Verity @Libby1 thank you! 6y
AlaMich @Verity Yeah 😠 I remember seeing people running on the Mall and wondering how they weren‘t passing out right and left. 6y
Verity @AlaMich yeah. I haven‘t been for a run yet. I don‘t think it happening anytime soon. 6y

I'm reading two very different books at the moment, written 100+ years apart, yet the politics of both seem very timely considering everything going on in America today. I find both a bit uncomfortable, Kitty with the the civil rights and extreme religious beliefs and fear regarding the unknown and Trollope, and charity and possible abuses. Are the administrators of the charity benefitting more than the recipients?

I read this on my Kindle, so my picture is just of my puppy-son, Max, asleep next to me. :-)

I really enjoyed this second Kitty Norville book. It was a MUCH better book than book one was for me. I am now feeling excited to continue this series!

I finished Kitty Goes to Washington on 01/20/2016. I gave it 4.5 - great! - stars. My full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/642652200
