I have access to ChatGPT for work this month so I decided to prompt DALLE to make a kawaii poster of my PhD research into the RNA expression of fish eggs development and this is what it gave me. 😂

It‘s so cute!

Lots of eggs, fish, and some graphs with hearts.

It‘s perfect. 🐟🥚❤️

AllDebooks That's wonderful 😊 Maybe if we presented all scientific data as kawaii, more people may be attracted to the subjects. 😅 2w

Kitta @AllDebooks I would love to make my posters like this for conferences! Dalle wreaks havoc on words and data though, it‘s a disaster. You can see none of the words make sense if you zoom in. But I could crop a fish or an egg from it and include that haha 2w

I have holds for The Alternatives and James which should come just in time (fingers crossed!). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Three interconnected stories of women who are related, set in 1619, 1942, and 2019. The women face challenging scenarios and navigate their way through with the help of their connection to nature.

I devoured this and read it over the weekend, pausing for a bit to sleep.

A bit predictable, but in the way that was pleasing for me.

Trigger warnings for: rape, domestic violence, miscarriage, and more.

Moving poetry by the LGBT singer Mary Lambert.

Perfect for poetry for #lgbaqbookbingo2024! Some formats were more successful than others, I didn‘t like the screenplay one but maybe that‘s just me and what I‘m used to.

Trigger warnings for rape, incest, and abuse.

I had no idea her story was so brutal and how much she struggled with her mental health. Some very relatable stuff in there.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Wow finally an audiobook I enjoyed!

Jennette never wanted to be an actor and was coerced into it by her mother at age 6. What follows is a lifelong attempt to make her mother happy at the expense of her own desires. The memoir follows her journey as a child actor and into adulthood as she develops an eating disorder, which is encouraged by her mom.

Lots of trigger warnings for this one: eating disorders, emotional abuse, alcoholism.

Starting this!

Happy world book day!

When I was living in the UK, we had World Book Night which is the first Thursday in March (they moved the date because it conflicts with school holidays).

You used to apply to give away the selected books. You‘d find people who don‘t read often or at all and give them a book (provided to you for free). I think now bookstores and libraries give them away.

It was great! I wish we had something similar here.

Ruthiella They did do it for at least one year in the US because I snagged a copy of Patty Smith‘s “Just Kids” from it. This would have been in maybe 2014 or so? But it was ultimately discontinued I guess. 1mo
Kitta @Ruthiella Oh cool, that‘s before I moved to the US so I guess I missed it. I remember when that was a choice! I‘m sad they don‘t do the free books here anymore. But I guess I‘m not their target market - they‘re trying to get more people to read and I already do. It was a great way to meet people as a giver of the books. One year I gave out like 50 copies of (edited) 1mo
Kitta @Ruthiella which was weird because I read it and didn‘t like it, but I see the appeal for others lol. I didn‘t get to choose which book I was giving out. But I was happy to give them to those interested in it. Maybe it‘s just me but everyone else seems to love it 🤷🏻‍♀️ (edited) 1mo

It‘s about a newly graduated Black nurse in Alabama working at a family planning clinic in 1973, shortly after the uncovering of the Tuskegee syphilis experiments. Cute story about finding yourself and your gender presentation.

Dawn discovers a love letter written between two women dating from the 1950s in a book she‘s rebinding and follows the mystery of who they are and what happened to them. What enfolds ends up mirroring her life in unexpected ways.

Predictable, but a good story and what I needed for the moment.

Very damning of Canada in terms of the treatment of indigenous peoples and an interesting perspective on NDN queer life, I‘m glad I read it but wouldn‘t recommend it.

Interesting debut by a trans author!

Centred on an intense friendship in a New York City high school that begins on 9/11, this novel kinda slightly missed the mark for me.

Something about Nell and Fays blog really made me uncomfortable? I don‘t know how to articulate it.

Some aspects really resonated with me while others did not. I don‘t cry easily and really struggle to allow myself to feel emotions. Her depression and utter heartbreak is relatable, but I didn‘t see myself in this.

I listened to this as a audiobook, narrated by the author. The version I had from #BOTM had her reading out the numbers of each chapter and this bothered me because there‘s so many chapters and it took me out of the story a bit.
