“The most important step a person can take is always the next one.”

✨📚🐾📚✨

A quote to live by — When I get too far down the rabbit hole of planning, when I'm paralyzed by the vast number of options, this quote holds true. Just take one step. Stop thinking, just do. What are you procrastinating doing because all your ducks aren't yet in a row? What's the most important step for you to take on your new project? (Hint: see above 😉) #fantasy

A great premise falls a bit flat for me re believability and character 3-dimensionality in Future Shock. Still a fun read. Like a bag of tasty potato chips. Ate them all in one sitting, then felt a little gross lol but would do it again. 😂 I...might not recommend this one unless you want something fast and brainless. Heck, we all need that sometimes. 🤷🏽‍♀️ So, if that's you—go for it!

This book is well-loved by many and not at all by some—which reminds me how people told me how to dress ALL THE FREAKING TIME as a teen. Like every item I wore was up for discussion/criticism. Like maybe I *like* wearing bootie shorts, or a floral pattern tunic over striped leggings!😤

Point is, we have different tastes and that‘s not only okay but necessary for the survival of our species. 🔮🦎

“Your mistakes are more important than your successes.” — Oathbringer, by Brandon Sanderson

✨📚🗡📚✨

I think about the jobs I‘ve taken and quit two weeks later, knowing I made the wrong choice. I count those times as successes (4 of them!) because I learned what I didn‘t want in life. And let‘s not even talk bad boyfriends! 😂

What about you? What mistake trophies do you keep to remind yourself of an important truth you‘ve learned?

⚜️⏱ Recommended if you enjoy fantasy AND a Sherlock-style steampunk mystery from a male POV. The gorgeous cover is a bit misleading, though still holy-heck gorgeous! And if you think you're getting strictly werewolves, well, you might be disappointed. But again ^^ if you like the above, you'll enjoy this book. I did 🙂

I mostly liked this book. I read it straight through but...I had trouble connecting with the MC. Muse just didn‘t click with me. I did empathize with her backstory on an emotional level—but her present troubles, the ones that outfitted the arc of this particular story, didn‘t make me hunger for more. That said, I do want to know who she ends up (Yep, that kind of girl 👠), so I might read the next, if I run out of TBRs at some point 😂 😉

Pretty damn enjoyable urban fantasy and gorgeous cover. Not that that‘s the *only* reason I buy books nowadays 😂

I got a little annoyed by the ending. Too many fantastical things all in one bout that I don‘t quite believe from the rest of the world building and setup. But overall really enjoyable and fairly well written.

“What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with...lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly...binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.”✨📚

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I should‘ve read the previous series first. The world building never really gave a strong sense of place—probably because the author was relying on my (absent) knowledge of the previous series. The plot wandered. Still, lots to enjoy here: a badass female teen MC, lots of caring, sass, and fun as well as some serious zingers that make you think about your own life. So, overall I enjoyed it. But this spinoff series isn‘t stand-alone.

Did you make a target goal (number) of books to read in 2019? I didn't but maybe I should! Im up to 26 right now! 🧐 My TBR list is huge! Pictured is only a small sampling and I keep adding more. I'm not sure if it's better or worse that I can't see the physical counterparts of all the ebooks I'm buying 😮 I love books! ❤️ I might have a problem. 😂

Q - What's your 2019 number? 🤓

heikemarie Mine was a 75 book goal but I think I‘ll need to up it since I‘m at 36 now. According to GR I own 248 books I haven‘t read yet. I definitely add more on a regular basis 😂 1mo
lroseriver @heikemarie Wow that‘s a lot! 😮 Yes it‘s an ever growing pile, isn‘t it? Good thing having unfinished reads doesn‘t give me anxiety the way having unfinished work projects does 😂 1mo

So this happened 🤓 Why have I been writing less the past few weeks? Well, there were some books that had my attention 😂🙈📖 Everybody needs a juicy page-turner once in a while—okay, or 12 😅 So I've been getting up to speed on the Sookie Stackhouse novels since I never watched past the first season of TrueBlood.

Q - What's your latest guilty pleasure read?

I adore my kindle, but diving into Shiver felt wonderful. My hands remembered their old pattern of holding. And the smell—so plot appropriate, that I'd find the smell alluring. 🐺🥀📚 This was one of those books I felt a little guilty about but I couldn‘t put it down. I want to feel more mature and read intricate, richly plotted books, but, whelp I loved this book 😂
Q - Oh, oldest new question: Paper or ebook?

jenniferajanes Welcome to Litsy! 🎉📚 E-book because I can carry my library everywhere, and I have no room to store physical books since a major downsizing several years ago. Also, my maturing eyes appreciate that I can adjust the font size. 😂 1mo
lroseriver Thanks! I sort of just stumbled on here and love it! 😍 I love love love my ebooks. Also they‘re cheaper 😉 1mo
Lynnsoprano Welcome to our Litsy family! Great first post. I‘m about 50-50. We‘re trying to pare down our library, because we just don‘t have the space. So, to get a new physical book, I have to let go of an old one. Ebooks, I don‘t have that problem 😄 1mo

lroseriver @Lynnsoprano Paring down with physical books seems to be the name of the game. I had to do that too — then one day I walked in to find my bookshelf *organized* my boyfriend wanted to surprise me. The horror! 😂 (edited) 1mo
wanderinglynn Paper. Only the kindle when traveling. Even then I usually have 1 or 2 physical books with me before I get the Kindle out. There‘s just something about holding a book in your hand. Plus I remember things much better when I‘ve read them from paper vs. on a screen. 1mo
lroseriver @wanderinglynn Ohhh that‘s interesting about remembering things more on paper. I‘ll have to think about whether this is true for me too 🤔 1mo

rretzler Welcome to Litsy. I think I prefer Kindle, easier to hold and I can carry around an entire library. Plus, I can read in the dark without having a light on. I do like the feel of books and being able to thumb through them and also being able to skip back and forth. Also, with a Kindle, I don‘t need to leave my house to buy or borrow a book! Book Gorilla is another service that provides a list of discounted ebooks. Plus The Portalist, too! 1mo
lroseriver @rretzler Hi! Thanks for the welcome. Cool tip about the other services. Yeah, I love love love discounted ebooks. That‘s a good point about kindle working in the dark. My partner likes that part too, as I don‘t have to bother him 😉 1mo

Okay this book knocked my socks off. I'm usually not one for historical fantasy tbh. But this was just...delicious. So action-packed, so unexpected, so fun! If you love fresh urban fantasy, twisty demony goodness, and kickass (literally) female heroines, then this book set in Old San Francisco's Chinatown is going to make your day.

Also kung fu. You should have at least a little love for martial arts and Asian culture. 🗡🔥

Ready, set...Read!
