Playing It My Way (UK) | Sachin Tendulkar

An autobiography? I'm skeptical on it. Lol

It's about Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's life. Both a movie and this book came out post his retirement.

Sadly though neither the book nor the movie touch upon the subject of match fixing. In the movie, Sachin claims he had no clue. Kind of hard to believe that he knew absolutely nothing.

It contains memorable photographs, as well as accounts of his 194* in Multan. Must read for cricket fans.

The Simple Truth | David Baldacci

Boy did I have to hunt hard to recall it's name. I got mixed it up as a MacLean novel (facepalm).

Luckily I remembered critical bits of the story for a keywords search on Google. Pouring through all of Maclean's works, I began realizing this story didn't sound like one of his.

It's an awesome thriller with secret that's worth turning the pages for.

It's a pleasure to be introducing my debut novel on Litsy for the first time.

A story of vengeance set against the backdrop of India in the fictional state of Durga Ghaati. A vicious criminal - Macholaal - is being hunted. The hunt includes an officer who has deeper motives to catch this criminal.

Violence is extremely descriptive. Intended for readers above 18 years. I invite you to join me on my journey. This is where it begins. :)

This one was my favorite. I cannot recollect the story after all these years, but this as far as I can recall used to be my favourite of all 5 original stories.

It a very interesting bit, which escapes me presently, but that's what made this my favourite. I'll have to rummage through my loft to see if this one's still there somewhere.

The second book of the Secret Series. Got to meet Dimmy here. Fell in love with the food described in it.

Though not at par with the rest (out of the first 5), it was still immensely enjoyable and still has quite a bit of adventure packed in.

(Sorry, mixed this up with The Secret Forest/Secret of Killimooin. Fixed now.)

Another one from the Secret series. If I had to describe the book in one word - Mafumu. He's amongst the sweetest of all depicted in the series. Couldn't help but feel sad to say bye to his character.

The yellow skinned red haired tribals made for an engaging read. Bad they were without making it look ugly.

I liked some of the tricks which were played.

The Secret Island | Enid Blyton

As I'm revisiting books I read during my schooldays, here's yet another one.

I just don't know how Enid Blyton could write such a compelling adventure tale. I've read the original 5 stories, which were available back then. I believe a 6th has been added. Haven't read that one.

Jack became a good friend to Mike, Peggy & Nora. I enjoyed the ending. Best ending amongst all the 5 books (6?).

Dead on Target | Franklin W. Dixon

Another one from my school days. First story of the Casefile series. I'd previously read several of the Mystery series, which were not as edgy. I was in for a bit of a shock.

To all the Hardy Boy fans, you know what shock I'm referring to.

I've read several of the Casefile series as well as a third series. The Casefiles were truly different from a lot of the mystery/thriller genre books, depicting young sleuths.

It's a fat book and was immensely enjoyable. It shared several inside details. There are several anecdotes of which the Sarwan-McGrath's actual incident was an interesting one to read.

The person who'd lent it to me joked that I finished this book much faster (in a few days) compared to a shorter novel (Continent of Circe), which I managed to read upto 40-odd pages only!

What could I possibly say about this book that hasn't already been said. Masterclass of a book. I belong to the school which says the book was better than the movie and it truly was!

To share my personal trivia, I read this when I was quite young and finished it overnight. Sleep time included, I read the book start-to-finish in under 48 hours. Kid you not.

I have read it in bits over the years and this is value for money.

Harold Larwood | Duncan Hamilton

One of the last books I read. Haven't read any new books since this one. Being a cricket enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoyed the first half reading all about this great fast bowler's career. The life story in the second half or post his career was painful to learn about. Happily he and his family went over to Australia.

I'd rate it 5/10 due to the first half and the statistics provided.

This was a story I'd first read when I was in school. I've revisited the book several times. Though the cover appears pretty worn, it's still in good shape. It was part of a 3-in-1 collection.

As I'm a greenhorn writer, the way the story has been written, is a benchmark for me. It's fast paced and an exciting read. Yes, even now.
