This book was a true escape. The inhumane and horrific abuse was difficult to read because it was accurate, the truth is hard but it only means Whitehead (all authors) shouldn‘t shy away from it. I‘m glad he didn‘t. Including an actual railroad was genius. While we can‘t rewrite history, exploring the “what ifs” of what might have happened with different resources opens the mind about the “what ifs” of today. This read was a true escape.

What an escape. I laughed at and wanted to shake these characters. I need to head to Singapore and eat!
