1. The Power of Love by Frankie Goes to Hollywood
2. Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper
3. Lucky Star by Madonna

^^^I got stuck going down an 80s songs rabbit hole for the past hour. I finally realized there were no perfect 3 songs, because they can‘t really be narrowed down that far. So, with the exception of the first song, the others are not top favorites of mine. They‘re just great songs.

#ThreeListThursday #TLT

Sace Maybe off topic but I read an article about the top happiest songs (maybe it was a top 10?) and so many were from the 80s. I could easily get lost in an 80s music rabbit hole (and 70s for that matter). 10h

1. Both my great-aunt and my grandma. Also, my granddaddy. All three of them were always kind. I never saw any of them be anything other than gentle and kind.

2. My partner and my two sons.

3. I‘ve always loved Madeleine L‘Engle‘s O‘Keefe family. I wanted to be part of that family when I was a girl. I think I kinda still do.

I‘d like your recommendations on books that would help someone deal with bullying. They can be for adults or YA. As an AuDHD adult with C-PTSD, I find that I don‘t have the social skills to navigate bullying. I could really use a couple books to help me work my way through it. Nothing triggering, please. Nonfiction is cool, as is fiction, as are graphic novels. I‘m open to anything. ⬇️

slategreyskies (Cont.) to add to that, my strategy has normally been to leave the situation, but I don‘t want to leave Litsy. I‘ve already removed my name from a group I participated in, but I don‘t feel like I should lose my safe places just because someone else isn‘t safe. Any advice or book rec would be welcome! You all are my tribe. I know someone out there knows the perfect book for this! 📚🤍 4d
ImperfectCJ This might not be quite what you're looking for, but it (and the whole series) has been helpful for me. If you'd like a quick overview before committing to the book, the author was on the Ten Percent Happier Podcast talking about the book: https://spotify.link/DGBFBXch0Ib 4d
slategreyskies @ImperfectCJ right now, I‘m just compiling resources, and this looks like an excellent addition. I‘m not sure there will be one book that covers it completely, so I will likely pick out relevant parts from several books and work within a framework of my own making. Thank you for that suggestion, as I hadn‘t heard of that book before! :) 4d

Read4life @ImperfectCJ thank you for the link. I think my daughter and I could both benefit from it. I‘ve been struggling lately and stressing about how to best support her as we try to navigate an overwhelming situation. My husband is usually better at “rolling with things” or “letting go” but he may want to read this, too. @slategreyskies I try to always educate myself so I‘ll be honest and tell you I had to look us AuDHD & c-ptsd. ⬇️ (edited) 4d
Read4life I think c-ptsd is something I need to learn more about and discuss with someone. Thank you for sharing this. 💙💙 If you get any recommendations that you think could benefit a college aged person that has suffered loss and is being bullied would you mind sharing them with me? I will share if I hear or find anything that may fit your recommendation request. Thank you. 🤍 4d
CoffeeK8 I‘m so sorry you are dealing with bullying. I think this book might be helpful in terms of gaining a deeper understanding of C-PTSD and how to help yourself. Although I‘m pretty sure it might be triggering to read if you‘re already upset, so maybe hold onto it for another day. 4d
CoffeeK8 @ImperfectCJ I second that podcast and book. They have been really helpful. 4d

The irises are in bloom. I wait all year for this. They‘re so beautiful. I actually go out of my way when driving places to drive by homes with irises in their yards. I keep a running list of which homes have them and which colors they have from the ones I‘ve seen while driving in previous years. The home with the most beautiful iris display changed owners last year, and before they moved, they dug up all their irises. They must‘ve had 200. ⬇️

slategreyskies (Cont.) I wish I knew where they moved the irises to, because I‘d drive there to see them. They were the highlight of my year. Every year without fail, so much beauty. At least the other houses still have them. And they‘re beautiful too. 6d

This was the perfect spring read. I really loved these poems. My only complaint about this library book isn‘t about the content but instead about the fact that another reader read this while eating and dropped food on many of the pages throughout it. Who does that and then doesn‘t even bother to wipe the food off? I was using my fingernail to scrape away chunks of dried food. It was really disrespectful and careless of that person. But the poems?

slategreyskies (Cont.) the poems were just what I wanted to read. Loved them! #poetry 6d
wanderinglynn Yuk. That is gross. If it‘s really bad, I‘d let the librarians know. And who eats like that when reading a library book?! (edited) 6d
slategreyskies @wanderinglynn I hadn‘t thought of letting them know. I was just trying to clean it up as I read, but I think I may mention it when I return it. I kinda don‘t want them to think I was the one who did it. Thanks! 😊 5d

Yet another strong collection of poetry. This selection was excellent. This is my last one of these anthologies that I‘ve checked out from the library. The next one I read will be one of the stack of eight that I purchased online. I highly recommend this series if you love poetry. I‘ve discovered so many new to me poets in this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!! #poetry

slategreyskies @plemmdog I‘m finding them more inspiring than I thought that I would. They really are excellent, and they make me feel more like I‘m part of a community of poets, which is something I feel like I‘m lacking. I mean, I write poems, but I don‘t have anyone to share them with, so it sometimes feels like writing into a void. 5d

I wasn‘t really sure how to rate this. Like some of the other reviewers, I too feel like it was too short. The narration felt a little less polished than I would‘ve preferred. That said, it was a feel good quick story to listen to while I was prepping dinner tonight, so I‘m giving it a soft pick. #romantsy

This made me think and reconsider a bit. I‘ve spent so many years trying to escape my upbringing, but maybe there‘s something there that I could come home to, even if it‘s not so much my biological family as it could be perhaps the food or the plants and land or something along those lines. Definitely something to think about. I did really enjoy this cookbook. While I won‘t purchase it, it was really nice to read about the author‘s life.

For me, this is a #borrownotbuy. That said, it looks like it has some incredibly interesting spice/seasoning ideas in it, several of which I plan on trying. I hadn‘t thought of putting a spicy blend on a fruit salad, for example, but I think it sounds like a great idea. I picked this up from the library because of the author‘s recipe for peanut butter noodles, but that recipe isn‘t actually in this book. I loved the stories he shared throughout.

The pictured page is the page I‘m most excited about. I love when cookbooks teach you how to create your own recipes, rather than just teaching you how to make theirs. Overall, this book was a #borrownotbuy for me. I loved the snippets of stories included with each recipe. I loved the photos too. However, most of the recipes were too far out of my comfort zone, so there were few I think I‘d actually make. Still, this was a solid book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

This cookbook is so inspiring! There‘s a great section on pantry items to keep on hand, another section on what tools to consider investing in and then there‘s this page: the author‘s favorite albums to listen to while cooking. On the previous page there is even a QR code that takes you to the author‘s Spotify account, where she makes a playlist for cooking most months. This is such a cool book!

I finished this just before I had to start getting ready for work this morning. While I really liked it, it did seem to wrap up a bit too neatly to be believable. However, let‘s face it: if I wanted a believable story line, I‘m not sure that I‘d go with a Maas book. That said, I really enjoyed this series, even at the same time that I‘d kinda like to mock parts of it with someone else who‘s read it and enjoyed it too. What can I say? A mixed bag.

This is a strong poem/collection of poems. It‘s a loose collection of segments that combine to make a larger poem. The theme is the AIDS crisis in the US and the author‘s loss of a close friend/lover. Some of what I chose to view as humor was very dark. I‘m still not sure if I was supposed to laugh in those instances or not. TW for death and some graphic stuff relating to dying of AIDS. Overall, I highly recommend this one. It was very well done.

This one is a soft pick for me. The main reason I gave it a pick instead of a so-so is that I feel that, by its being almost simplistic at times, it makes me feel like I don‘t have to set the bar so high for myself and my poetry. Sometimes I don‘t even bother trying to write, because I feel like I can‘t possibly measure up. A book like this one makes me feel like it‘s okay to just get it down, in whatever form that takes.
