Read this a few months ago and I still think of it often. The subplots are rich and intricately crafted.

KateFulfordAuthor If you need another recommendation in a similar style, may I point you to my People‘s Book Prize nominated debut? Sassy female narrative, laugh out dialogue and a pacy plot. Check the link in the bio for 2 free chapters, reviews and more. 6y

This is Romance perfection. The title is something of a misnomer because the heroine is wonderful, vibrant, and lovable from the start. There is a line I won‘t quote (spoiler-y) when he confesses to her about how he sees her that made me touch my heart and sigh aloud. I very nearly swooned and I‘m not the swooning type. 100% recommend to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, wanted to challenge the status quo, or simply loves love. ❤️😍❤️

I split the reading if this between text and audio because sometimes you can‘t just sit and read. When you have to multitask there‘s no better solution than audiobooks. @phoenixpubliclibrary has a great tool in #Libby as well as in the #Hoopla and #Overdrive apps. The book itself is a love letter to books & an absolute delight. Romantic, funny, poignant and incredibly charming. I loved it & absolutely recommend. #TheReadersOfBrokenWheelRecommend

YA dystopia with a young woman in peril and a love triangle. We've seen a lot of these plot elements in big series recently but Aveyard still manages to surprise sometimes. The magical/fantasy element was refreshing and sets this apart from many similarly themed popular titles. I gave 3/5 stars on Goodreads and would recommend for a fun quick read.

Thanks to Changing Hands for the autographed copy!

This story is beautiful and unexpected. I live watching Janie evolve and mature, finding he joy. There were unexpected twists of fate and as the book continued I became increasingly connected to Janie.

For all the goodness in this book, it is hard to read for the dialect, but I t's well with the effort.

Handmaid's Tale | Margaret Atwood

Offred is a handmaid in the nation of Gilead, formerly New England. The world has changed and society is controlled by Christian extremists. Margaret Atwood's description of how quickly and easily the world changes around her protagonist is terrifyingly plausible. It is hard to believe this book is over 20 years old when it feels so current.

Listening to the audio book at my desk and trying not to let anyone see my cry at how beautiful this book is. I'm not saying anything else because spoilers but if you don't read this book you're missing out. 10/10 would recommend.

Roller Derby and romance? Yes!

I needed a book about sports for my #ReadHarder2017 challenge and in general sports aren't my jam. Roller derby is the exception. Add in a bit of romance and you've got a winner. 10/10 would recommend.

I started reading the first time and bailed on this book because the beginning is slow. Crawlingly slow. Achingly slow. Excruciatingly slow. HOWEVER once the action picks up it is pretty much nonstop.

There are unexpected twists and turns, hardcore ladies, mystical creatures and a protagonist that thrills my little feminist heart.

I love Alicia Rai's work. The characters are people you want to see win. They are well developed and they are relatable. The sexy parts are always 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 but more often than not the encounters further the story so it's not simply gratuitous.

Being in the same room with Gloria Steinem was a tremendous experience. Everyone there with us was a woman or an ally. Steinem understands intersectionality and lives it In such an authentic way. It was a life changing moment and a treasured learning experience.

Mehso-so

It was good, not great. I loved seeing more of our heroes as adults but it read like so-so fanfic in places and there was a heavy lean on convenient plot devices. I'm glad I read it but it won't be one I read again. Bonus: it's a play so it counts for my #readharder challenge. 22 down, 2 to go!

I'm at 67% & I have had a few epiphanies. First, the embalmer is encouraged to say "decedent" or Mr/Mrs______. This means that one day someone will stand over me and mispronounce "Mrs Ruelas" even in my death. Second, this is far more fascinating and less gross than I expected because most people tend to treat other humans' cadavers with respect. It's not like the movies. Animal experiments, however, were horrifically disgusting and torturous.

Listened to the audio version compliments of Phoenix Public Library. I'm now going to buy it in print because it is fantastic. Then I'm going to buy copies for all the women I love that have struggled with self love and body image. So, so, incredibly good. 👍🏽👍🏽
