What is most intriguing about this book is the depiction of a powerful deity, Lord Shiva, in the most human way possible. It offers a new perspective to the Hindu mythology and how indeed the greatness of such a being eventually led him to be worshipped through time immemorial.
Depicting gods in the character of humans to show the struggles they go through and become the person we imagine they might be was a wonderful experience to read.

Clash of Kings maintains the high standards set in the series opener, A Game of Thrones. Characters that by now have become pleasantly familair. It's as hard hitting as ever, with Martin using tried and tested to powerful effect even if they do sometimes leave a slightly bitter taste. The book as a whole recieves my hearty recommendation. If you loved the first book, you will love this one too.
