Another lazy Sunday read! I‘m usually behind the curve on new releases, so excited to be reading a book that is currently very popular. This is also the first book of Rooney‘s that I‘m reading so am interested to see how I‘ll like it. Happy Sunday all!

Spending my weekend with this. So far, a good summer read. TW - this book does include passages involving sexual assault, so just a heads up!

The thing you need to realize is this: the game is never over until it is over. It isn‘t over if there is a single pawn still on the board. If one side is down to a pawn and a king, there is still a game. And even if you were a pawn - maybe we all are - then you should remember that a pawn is the most magical piece of all.

I finished Get A Life, Chloe Brown yesterday and had this book delivered today so that I could immediately continue with the series. So excited to read more of Talia‘s work. The inclusivity and the thoughtfulness in her writing is just *chef‘s kiss*

This was a quick and delightful read. Loved the representation here - my first time reading a love story where the lead is a Black woman who isn‘t super thin and also has a chronic illness. Also loved that the author touched upon therapy, the importance of communication, and how to love your partner well in this story. I immediately purchased the second book in the series after reading!

I read The Printed Letter Bookshop two summers ago and am excited to return to the town of Winsome and be introduced to new characters. With everything going on in the world right now it feels good to pick up a book that gives you all of the cozy, wholesome Hallmark movie vibes.

Excited to spend a lazy Sunday with this book! It‘ll be my first time reading Brit Bennett‘s work and I‘ve heard nothing but great reviews about The Vanishing Half. I‘m usually behind the curve when it comes to reading newly released books that are so popular, so I‘m looking forward to taking part in some of the current conversations surrounding this story.

I loved this book, I was so excited to know the ending that I skimmed the last few chapters! Even after spoiling it for myself I still went back to read the remaining pages and was engaged throughout the entire story. There were a couple unexpected twists and turns that kept me on my toes, and I liked being able to read the story from the perspectives of both Nina and Vanessa. I highly recommend, especially for anyone who wants a good beach read!

The stories in this collection are very unique, and at times so disturbing that I no longer wanted to read them. Quite a few of them felt like a punch to the gut, and I‘d have to take a break before diving into the next story. However, I appreciated the Afro-futurism and the portrayal of many different relationships. Lesley has a gift at weaving together new and magical worlds that kept me intrigued despite my discomfort.

A wonderfully written story that celebrates the beauty of a black family. Imperfect, and filled with so much love, sacrifice, and the passing down of familial history and tradition. I loved that both the main and supporting characters all had their own unique stories that were expressed from their point of view. I was left feeling proud of and grateful for my family, our history, and black people as a collective whole.
