Jane, Unlimited | Kristin Cashore
Mehso-so

Not sure what I think. The book is kind of an homage to Choose Your Own Adventures but all five possible endings are included. The problem for me was that Jane, the main character, never seemed to materialize into any clear character or personality. The focus was so much on Jane‘s choices that it felt like I never developed any connection with the character.

Pickpick

Ever so often a book comes along that connects with me at just the moment. This is one of those books. A story told from the point of view of a 7th grader trying desperately to make sense of the death of her best friend, The thing about jellyfish captures so accurately the conflicting emotions after a loved one dies. It‘s not a happy story, and if you lose yourself in books like I do, you better make sure to have Kleenex ready. But it‘s worth it.

I think Merricat is one of my favorite characters. Her nonchalant telling of her and Constance‘s story only makes the ending that much more unsettling. Stephen King fans need to read this.

What may seem like a simple children's book is so much more. Appelt's prose is elegant and poetic.

As a white high school teacher who teaches students from all backgrounds, I was moved by Smith's poetry. His words resonate with me, not because I can relate, but because I see his words in the faces of many of my students. And it saddens me.

Sobering description of the effects of income inequality in the U. S. While some of his conclusions are more conjecture than proven, his anecdotal evidence works well to paint the picture of needed work to be done to ensure equality of opportunity for everyone.
