Great book. Very slow build up (but that's not a complaint) and a real twist at the end

This is a terrific book, the first that I read by Penelope FitzGerald. Her novellas are all short but she has a talent fir creating the most extraordinary sense of the place and period. Highly recommended.

One of my favourite books. Die Welt con Gestern tells the story of a world that has disappeared and is fascinating. Strongly recommended.

House on the Strand | Daphne Du Maurier

This is a terrific book about time travel, obsession, addiction, history and Cornwall. Don't let this list of themes deter you; it is enthralling and scary scary and will keep you gripped to the end. Highly recommended.

I read this again after about 40 years and really enjoyed the story of a quiet man taken completely out of his usual life. Well worth a read.
