I wonder why the main character only had one 'x' carved in arm while all the other Gutter kids had two. What's the reason behind them getting it carved into them anyway?

I can relate to this text in the book. It is like how this whole quarantine thing is new to me. Different, rules, ways of doing things. It's not all the same. :(
I have read 12 chapters now and the author started the book of with no background information of the character in the book. As I read more I slowly got more information and began putting this together.I think the author wanted more interesting beginning and to bring curiosity to the reader
You can feel the tension rise when Starr has to talk about how Khalil died during the interview. In the book though Ms. Ofrah had warned Starr not to go into too many details, and in spite of King‘s threats, Starr hears Kenya‘s voice in her head and decides to tell the world why Khalil sold drugs.
This book is novel, young adult fiction. I am reading this book as it relates to many things happening now with racism and I want to understand more about. I have heard many wonderful results and have been told to read the book and I too find it interesting.
