Zorro: A Novel | Isabel Allende

Pickpick

I picked this book up on the cheap at a secondhand bookstore with the intention of having a lightweight book that I wouldn‘t be sad to part with on vacation. I didn‘t read it quickly, so it made it home with me. The first 2/3 is slow, but I love Isabel Allende so it didn‘t bother me. It was actually nice to have a book on vacation that I didn‘t mind putting down. The last 1/3 was epic. Allende delivered. Not my fave by her but still a pick.

The Mark of Zorro | Johnston McCulley
Pickpick

I've been using Serial Reader to read some classics, and decided to take a step away from the classic crime I've been reading and read something else... and picked more or less at random. 😅 I think I remember trying to read my mum's copy as a kid, but it didn't stick then. It's quite fun, though it's really terribly obvious who Zorro is...

I loved this book so much. There is not much dialogue. Pure action and integrity in the hearts of two young boys of Shoshone heritage. I loved the loose magical realism with the telepathy of the natives. The trickery and the development of the two separate personalities were just simply delightful. The time with the Roma. I could go on and on. My only wish is I want to read it in it's original language. #LitsyAtoZ @Texreader

Texreader Yay!! On my tbr for a long time. Glad to hear this! I assume original language is Spanish? I‘ve been studying it again. I had four years in high school and college but of course remembered little. So I‘m studying it again. It‘d be great if I could get proficient enough to read novels in Spanish! 1mo
Butterfinger @Texreader it is spanish. I have tried several times to learn, and I just can't get my head wrapped around it. The way Allende writes, I know I am missing the poetic beauty of her writing. The translation is beautiful. Don't get me wrong. 1mo

Ouch! Only six of them this time #tlt
I've seen the Antonio Banderas zorro, and modern versions of a few more. Here's hoping for a better score next batch.

dabbe Same here! I've only seen the Banderas one. Thanks for playing and sharing! 🧡🖤🧡 8mo

16/50 for this one. It would be higher if the list had contemporary versions of some of these. #tlt

dabbe Agree 💯. The AFI needs to do an update! Thanks for playing and sharing! 🤩🤩🤩 9mo

I finally finished rereading ZORRO while I hung around outside with Casey! It wasn‘t terrible, but it wasn‘t anywhere near as gripping as it was the first time, either. Sadness.

At least I made a bit of space on my Keepers shelf.
