My great-aunt arizona

This HF picture book was an adorable addition to my library. The main character, Arizona, was a thoughtful teacher who taught inside of a small schoolhouse for generations instead of traveling the world. I would love to use this book as a RA to a class.

MarinaForsythe https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/My-Great-Aunt-Arizona-Reading-Respon... is a great resource activity to go along with this book because it goes over vocabulary, the beginning middle and end, and comparing and contrasting. UDL strategy 6.3, Facilitate managing information and resources, and EL strategy 7 go well with this activity. #ucflae3414f14 6y
DrSpalding I'm thrilled you read this book. It is a sweet story about a real teacher. I make text to text connections with Little House on the Prairie books. 6y

This is a Modern Fantasy novel that was one of my favorite books as a child! It's about a little girl named Matilda who is in her first year of school. All of the adults are mean to her and make fun of her intelligence. Matilda happens to have magical powers that she uses to stand up to the adults! I would use this book in my classroom for readers theater. Each kid would be a character and act out each chapter!

MakennaK https://youtu.be/A06-8IWjFSE. This is a YouTube video of Matilda the Musical on Broadway that I would show my students in order to hook their interest into the book! We could also use it for compare and contrast. ESOL 21, record your lectures, presentations, or stories on audiotape is perfect to use because I can record the students doing RT and have the ELLs watch it again later. 7y
MakennaK UDL 3.3, guide information processing, visual representations and manipulation, is perfect for this because I can use the Matilda Broadway clips and the Matilda movie clips in the lesson of the book to engage and extend students' understanding more! (edited) 7y

Juliemorell This is one of my favorite stories. I love the teaching strategies you provided with this. It's so great that we can connect stories from our childhood to education now! (edited) 7y
DrSpalding Yes! Use the clip from the Broadway musical and discuss theater along with this fabulous book. Dahl should definitely be a source of books for your LCs in your future classroom. 7y

This RF New York Times Best Seller novel is an amazing read. This is one of my favorite books that I have read and would use it in LC in my classroom. It is about a little girl named Melody. She has cerebral Palsy but is very intelligent. She narrates the book and talks about her struggles and thoughts of her life. UDL 5.1, use multiple media for communication, is perfect for this book since Melody uses different forms of media to communicate!

MakennaK ESOL 10, teach think, pair and share in cooperative groups is a great strategy to use to get students to talk about their feelings about their book and find out how other students feel about the book! This video, https://youtu.be/nCG6e2DifxY, is a link to the book trailer. Again, it is a price of media which I think is a great tool to use with this book since Melody uses media in the book to communicate and to say what is on her mind! 7y
DrSpalding Book trailers can encourage students to connect to a book and hopefully pick it up and read it. Good choice. 7y
JanaLL I have seen this book mentioned several times and by Dr Spalding. I really need to get my hands on it and experience it! 6y
