Transformers #1 | Daniel Warren Johnson

Reset timeline. New Origin story. Spoke and Carly hike across to Teletran1. Find themselves in the middle of the war on earth. What‘s starling is how gruesome this series I starting out as. Fan favorites are already killed off and humans are already squished. Let alone transformers killing humans in cold blood. Dark. It feels more grown up, and still so compelling.

This is definitely nutty gritty Nick drawings here. Works with the emotional and rough story. Mash up of being a western start siding with what the end of the tf war would look like. With all the stars dying out. Felt similar to the Last Ronin: one is left, to finish the self proclaimed job. Felt the grief and remorse for what tf‘s did to the universe. This scene hit hardest; the stars dying out. Many MTMTE & Lost Light callbacks. #transformers

Would bum me out so much less if I didn‘t know this ushered in the ousting of my favorite TF writers…

Alright. While I really enjoyed the plot -knew the characters well, too- the pace never picked up. The story was fascinating to read, yet they didn‘t really get anywhere. Stopped on this planet, then the next.. searching for a mythical weapon to help them get the AllSpark. The whole book focused on Optimus V Megatron. Only them. What made it a long read for me was the way the author told the story. So oddly paced and low energy for action scenes

Spelling error! Pretty sure that should be “hurry”... Either way, now I‘m stuck on imaging a decepticon named Harry. Just Harry. Just like toasters. It‘s the second small error in the last few pages here at the end of the book. Interesting. #transformers

He had made his choice, Starscream had, and now he was biting his time until the moment came when he could assume control of the Decepticons at last. Then, perhaps, would be the time to talk with the Autobots from a position of strength. For now he was a Decepticon, and he would cooperate with Megatron as long as long as their goals coincided. Interesting to see Screamer thinking like this outside of the films #transformers

Too many what ifs. Remember, Optimus Prime told himself, when there are too many variables, decide on the outcome you want and act to make it happen. #transformers

Omg Wreck-Gar is as funny/annoying as ever. Love how it follows the old time 1986 movie. I love the story of the autobots leaving Cybertron in search of the AllSpark with the decpricons on their trail. Although, it‘s really hard to stay motivated because the characters only ever “said” or “asked”. I thrive on describing words, and there barely any in their manners of speech. #transformers
