A niche recommendation, to be sure, but this is a great read if you have kids (or others in your life…including yourself!) that have issues with behavior, social interactions, anxiety, etc. Lots of good research and tips within, and most valuable is the encouragement to reframe misbehavior as stress behavior and to shift the focus from self-“control” to self-regulation.

ImperfectCJ This looks like it has the kind of information/approach I've been seeking for my classroom. Is it very geared towards parenting, or do you think the information could be easily applied to a teacher/student situation? 11mo
Bookwormjillk I read this a while ago but I still love to say “One two three I‘m as calm as I can be.” 11mo
Christine @ImperfectCJ It‘s pretty parent-focused, but the approach is absolutely used in schools, and some of the examples reflect that! It‘s mostly about helping kids identify their stressors and the strategies that work best for them to self-regulate, and teachers can of course be super valuable collaborators in that. 11mo
Christine @Bookwormjillk Love that! :) 11mo

My boss is retiring in a couple months and was starting to clean out his office today. I took advantage of the fact that he was getting rid of some books. #bookhaul 📚

The anger, the swearing at the book, the emotions the book brought out in me. It did make me angry and frustrated that things are going this way, and there doesn‘t seem to be a way to stop it… unless the government gets some teeth and stops bowing to the corporate lobbyists for the good of the regular people, the good of the farmers. LibraryCin Well worth the read for anyone who wants to know (and even those who don‘t!) what is going on with our modern-day food (or, at least meat) industry 2y

If there's a harmful chemical in a product, the EU bans it. Period. In the United States, no such thing is done unless there is extensive, years long study with one-hundred percent certainty that someone's sickness was caused by that product (spoiler alert: that means never). Why is the U.S. a dumping ground for these harmful chemicals? Lobbyists. While I disagree with Schapiro's views on GMOs, this book is far too important to not recommend.

Suet624 Ugh. I‘m just so disgusted. Crappy chemicals in our food supply and non-existent health insurance once the chemicals do their damage. Everyone makes a profit off of us, even the chemo companies. 4y

Bookwomble @Weaponxgirl Ha ,ha! I've figured out my oven clock - kinda 😁 5y
Weaponxgirl @Bookwomble when I moved into my flat my oven clock/timer would just speed through numbers like it was travelling through time. A friend managed to get it to stay in one place and that is now how it shall remain forever 5y
Bookwomble @Weaponxgirl Sounds like a challenge! I wouldn't be able to rest until I'd solved it or destroyed it! 5y

This book was so good! I had no idea. My grandparents and in-laws all had chickens so I thought I knew stuff...I was so wrong. From the backyard to big commercial operations, everything chicken is covered. Fascinating, informative, and engaging read. Chickens. Who knew?
