Sarah's Key | Tatiana de Rosnay
post image

Ok so my 13 year old son picked this book to read for one of his independent reads this year for school. While I thought it was good, it was a little too hard for him. I am throwing this question out here for comments please...what is an interesting, easily comprehendible book for a 13 year old boy that is over 200 pages (but not much over because he has not inherited my love for reading)? #readinghelp #needhelp

Myhusbandhatesreading He read Maniac Magee 3 years ago, it was a good book!! He's in a different school so that may not be a bad idea. I thought The Giver too but I don't think it has enough pages, I'll check again :) 8y

Johanna414 Did he choose Sarah's Key because of an interest in WWII? If so, he could try one of Chris Lynch's books 7y
Sapphire I haven't checked page numbers, but.. The Phantom Toll Booth, Looking for Alaska, Enders Game, A Wrinkle in Time. 7y
Sapphire When my daughter was in middle school (and not a great reader) I got her lexile reading level from the Language arts teacher (they test them every year till 8th grade) and then found lists of books from publishers of which books were that (letter or number) plus one up and down. Then I searched categories she liked, like non fiction and biographoes. 7y
Myhusbandhatesreading @Johanna414 I don't think he knew the content before he chose it, I never figured out why he chose it but it was a good book....I thought so anyway :) 7y
Myhusbandhatesreading @Sapphire I will have to look into that, thank you 7y
readinginthedark My nephews liked the Theodore Boone series at that age. If he likes fantasy, maybe The Fellowship of the Ring? 7y
Myhusbandhatesreading @readinginthedark unfortunately, he's not into anything...reading is a chore for him 7y
readinginthedark @Myhusbandhatesreading I get that; my husband's not much of a reader. He will listen to audiobooks with me in the car, though. Maybe something like that would work? 7y
