Pickpick

This got me out of my reading slump and then I turned back to the beginning and read it again. Detailed expressive panels and a story about a queer disabled teen attending her first comic convention with her supportive, geeky mom. I loved it all! I get the sense this was published first in Australia and just came out in the US? It was on display at my indie bookstore as having won an ALA award (Stonewall) this year.

willaful Grrr... dashed to my library to find this for my daughter and they have it on order but only in digital. 2mo

The theme for the winter reading challenge at my library this year is Literary Love. I had great fun doing the humor challenge last year & plan on completing the challenge this yr. Although you can technically complete it by reading any 5 books in 2 months, where's the fun in that? I'm not really a fan of love stories, but I do LOVE anti-love & jaded love stories. So I plan on reading 5 books that are anti-romances. First up is this one( CONT)

vivastory where last night I encountered a word in Italo Calvino's delirious story “Blood, Sea“ that I never have before: ingurgitate. I initially thought it might be a neologism, but found out differently after a quick google search. I really enjoyed this Merriam Webster entry on the word:
Most people are familiar with “regurgitate“ as a fancy synonym for “throw up,“ but far fewer know of its rarer antonym “ingurgitate.“ It's a word as likely to turn (CONT

vivastory up in a spelling bee as in a conversation, but it does see occasional use, both literal (as in “ingurgitating red wine“) and figurative (as in “ingurgitating artwork“). “Regurgitate“ and “ingurgitate“ (as well as “gurgitate,“ an even rarer synonym of “ingurgitate,“ and gorge, meaning “to eat greedily) can be ultimately traced back to the Latin word for “whirlpool,“ which is “gurges.“

IndoorDame Can‘t wait to see what else you choose! Love anti-love stories 🙃♥️ 2mo
Megabooks This kind of reminds me of the quote from 10 Things I Hate About You. Something like, “You can be underwhelmed and overwhelmed but can you just be whelmed?” Answer is yes to this as well. Thanks for sharing the cool word, Scott!! 👍🏻 I‘m an anti-love person, too. 2mo
vivastory @IndoorDame Thanks! I'm def looking forward to it 2mo
vivastory @TheBookHippie I have read several Everyman's Library anthologies & love them 2mo
CBee Sounds like a great challenge! I like these types of stories too 😊 2mo
vivastory @Megabooks Lol. Great quote! The only local radio station that I listen to (member supported, commercial free with a great eclectic playlist) does an anti-valentine's day segment every year. It's pretty great. 2mo
CatLass007 Ingurgitate is an excellent new word! Sister Augustine, our grade school principal, told students and entire classes that we made her want to regurgitate. Which is just one of the many reasons why I am not Catholic. But @vivastory, thank you for sharing this intriguing new word! 2mo
Aimeesue @vivastory @megabooks I went to school with a guy we called "Couth" because he was the epitome of couthness. ? 2mo

It‘s the summer before college, Hannah & Sam meet, hit it off, but they don‘t exchange names/contacts. They don‘t think they‘ll see the other again, but they keep running into each other. Each time, it‘s filled w/ mishap & miscommunication.

⭐️⭐️💫 I didn‘t really enjoy this book. It was kind of boring & cringy. I didn‘t really like the characters & the writing could‘ve been better. There were a couple funny lines tho.

Have to give you a sunset shot before i go back to my rainy home in a couple of days. Have read nearly 3 books this week which is good for me! Children are looking forward to seeing their friends again and apparently even “miss the rain” 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

The month started off well, but then fell away badly due to issues I have had to deal with in a voluntary role. If it wasn‘t for audiobooks I wouldn‘t have got to many books in the second half of the month.

Hoping for better in July.

IMASLOWREADER thank goodness for audiobooks…its the same for me 10mo
Andrew65 @IMASLOWREADER Yes, they are god sends in these situations. 10mo
Roary47 Audiobooks are the best with my young kiddos needing my attention. Laundry and dishes are my main audiobooking times. 10mo
Andrew65 @Roary47 Definitely, a good audiobook is great and can multitask. 9mo

My June recap. It was a great month for reading! I managed to finish 14 books & really enjoyed almost all of them. I kept up with my #SundayBuddyRead #Pemberlittens #CampLitsy23 #SeriesLove2023 #TitlesAndTunes & DiverseCozy challenges. I read pretty diversely too with multiple LGBTQIA+ characters & themes, a neurodivergent character & books set in Turkey, India, New Zealand, Mexico the UK & San Francisco‘s Chinatown. The top row are my standouts.
