this is THE book. It's not about grand gestures, but tiny, consistent improvements that stack up. Clear's framework of Make It Obvious,
Highly recommend if you want to understand how habits actually work and how to build a system that works for you. Grabbed my copy at Freshbooks – they've got some great deals on non-fiction. So glad I picked this one up!
Most of the topics and conclusions re self-explanatorily or not really something new to me personally. I don‘t know if it‘s because I seem to already have that knowledge or if the book just isn‘t it. I‘ve also noticed that the author repeats himself a LOT and that made it really hard to read. I didn‘t really learn something new so it‘s a flop to me.
For some reason, due to all the hype, I thought this was a new book.
Yet, it came out in 2018.
Either way, I can't say this book has changed my life, but there were some interesting insights and real world examples.
I particularly liked the idea of "habit stacking".
I teach a course called Growth Goals and Grit. This has been an invaluable resource both personally and professionally. We are working on building strong habits that will help us reach our goals. This is the undisputed handbook.
I wasn‘t sure at first on this book, but the more I read, I started to see a full vision of what could be. I think a lot about the type of home we are creating for my kids-the environment, stretching, encouragement, etc. This book gave some excellent guidelines and ideas to help make our home a place where our kids can thrive!
Habit tracking also keeps you honest. Most of us have a distorted view of our own behavior. We think we act better than we do. Measurement offers one way to overcome our blindness to our own behavior and notice what‘s really going on each day. One glance at the paper clips in the container and you immediately know how much work you have (or haven‘t) been putting in. When the evidence is right in front of you, you‘re less likely to lie to yourself
