I'm no disciple of Ayn Rand, but have to admit the 19th/20th century railroad magnates fundamentally changed the USA. New York City's Pennsylvania Station was the keystone of the American rail network; its tunnels are still vital, but the station itself is gone. Jonnes explains why.
