I‘m not a great judge of silly books, but this one felt a little flat to me. The monster concept is cute but doesn‘t quite make sense, and the librarian just going with the flow and inviting everyone to storytime came out of nowhere. The book eating did make me chuckle, though. #library #monster #picturebook
“When Willow finally came out, she was holding a magic microphone!“ I like this quote because the illustration shows her 'magic microphone' to be a toilet paper roll.
I think that this book is really fun to read especially when talking about voices and what level it should be at. I really appreciated the art in this book because it describes the plot very well. This book would be good for a class that might want to invent something.
Willow's Whispers by Lana Button. 2010. Picture Book. This book uses space as a big part of the book which I think shows the quietness of Willow. The illustrations are small and faint which I think also describes the book well. The words on the page show that her words are quiet and when she gets her microphone her words are super big which shows that she is loud.
3 ⭐This book is an ode to Isamu, not a biography. If one reads this story, as a story, it is quite nice. It is about a child‘s view of wonder. If one is reading it as a biography about the artist Isamu, one will be highly disappointed. As there is very little, almost nothing about the artist. This is all about how the artist viewed life. It‘s an interesting read, but not one that readers would gravitate to over and over again.
This book is a great tool for showing students the importance of expressing oneself, and the importance of making sure that others voices feel heard. This is another good book for a morning meeting on how you can be a good friend, or how you can make your voice heard.
