Dear Haiti, Love Alaine | Maika Moulite, Maritza Moulite

Pickpick

A low pick for me & I agree with many of the other reviews. Alaine is a fantastic, funny, believable character. Suspended from school, she spends a month in #Haiti interning at her aunt‘s charity, getting to know her extended family & spending time with her Mum, who‘s taking a break from life in the public eye. I would happily have read more of Alaine- but the plot was more than necessary! I enjoyed learning more about Haiti & its history as well.

rockpools This was my attempt at #BBRC #TeenAngst #LatinoMainCharacterInANonissueBook . I‘m not entirely sure I met the brief! Latino MC? I *think* so geographically, possibly not by all definitions. I got confused. And I think you could argue it as a non-issue book (it‘s a fun read) and the issues it covered weren‘t expected or the norm. (Spoilers below). But they were issues! @LibrarianRyan @Sarahreadstoomuch Also bk 2 for #JoysOfJune readathon @Andrew65 3y

Andrew65 Progressing well 👏👏👏 3y
LibrarianRyan Works for me. They are not issues that exist because she is Latino. So all good. (edited) 3y
