Posting the link for Back to Classics Challenge. I'm doing this challenge this coming year (I completed the 2017 one as well).

Rachel.Rencher Thanks for sharing! This will be a good way for me to get through all those classics I buy and just shelve. 2y

Bleak, dark, and still alarmingly prescient.

I'll start this out saying I don't like vampire stories. And this book is extremely sexist. But I'm glad I read it, because it is a classic. And this audio version's narration is excellent.

Finished on Serial. This was much dryer than I thought it would be, but interesting nonetheless.

And with this book I've completed the #LitsyAtoZ reading challenge!

Finished this on Serial today for #Backtoclassicschallenge #Publishedbefore1800.

Won't lie, this was a struggle. I had a hard time with the lack of plot and racist themes.

If you consider when this book was written (1950) the patronizing, well-meaning but still racist tropes aren't as glaring as they are in 2017. I usually am able to be forgiving about something being a product of its time, but I had a harder time with this book.

Cranford | Elizabeth Gaskell

Finished this on Serial Reader today. This is the third Gaskell I've read, I didn't like it as much as Wives and Daughters; I liked much more than Mary Barton.

Fans of Dickens' episodic storytelling and reliance on coincidence to resolve the plot (things I honestly love about Dickens) will enjoy Cranford.

I quite enjoyed this book, my first Anne Bronte. It's very much a product of its time, but compelling nevertheless. The audio was just OK, it didn't detract or add to the book.

This is an eerie book to read right now. It freaked me out a bit. Feels too timely in our current climate.
