J♦️ is the prompt Music, for which I chose The Chimes (tagged below) since it‘s one of the books on my Unfinished List.

It appears that today's reading theme is murderous mermaids. I'm a little less than a quarter of the way through The Wake, but it's astonishing. I'm really looking forward to diving into (pun unintended) my first Mira Grant.

TricksyTails I really enjoyed The Wake and wished there were more. 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails Can you think of any graphic novels that are similar? 6y
TricksyTails Hmm...🤔 Not a graphic novel, but it did give me The Abyss vibes. 6y

vivastory @TricksyTails Have favorite creature horror novels? 6y
TricksyTails I had to think really hard about this one. I can't think of any because I find people so much more terrifying! 😆 Does Hellraiser count? What about you? Good question. 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails IT & Dan Simmons' The Terror. I haven't read very many. I've heard great things about Douglas Preston's Relic. I'm not sure if Scott Smith's The Ruins counts since that's murderous vegetation. 6y
TricksyTails Oh. Duh. Misunderstood the creature part. IT, for sure. I have Dan Simmons on my shelf but haven't read any yet. I really want to read Carrion Comfort. Have you read it? 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails No, the only Simmons I have read is The Terror. Oh yeah, I'd also add Nick Cutter's The Troop to the list 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails Carrion Comfort sounds fantastic! It seems like most of the vampire novels I want to read are chunkster: Kostova's The Historian, Cronin's trilogy & Carrion Comfort! 6y
TricksyTails Have you not read Cronin's yet? Those are definitely chunky! All three of them! I enjoyed The Historian too. I need to read Nick Cutter. Keep hearing he's pretty scary. 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails I haven't read Cronin yet, I'm really looking forward to it though. The Troop made me gag several times. The tension is immediate & relentless 6y
TricksyTails Oh now you've got me very curious! Have you read 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails Yes, it is amazing. One of my favorite horror novels of all time! 6y
TricksyTails Great! I'll bump it up my TBR. I've heard it's so scary you don't want to read it at night. True? 6y
vivastory @TricksyTails It is genuinely unsettling. I read it in one sitting the middle of the day at a mechanic. 6y
TricksyTails 😳 Wow! I need a book to pull me in like that. Definitely picking it up soon! 👍 6y
