But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing:His crayons have had enough! They quit!Beige Crayon is tired of playing second fiddle to Brown Crayon. Black wants to be used for more than just outlining. Blue needs a break from coloring all those bodies of water. And Orange and Yellow are no longer speakingeach believes he is the true color of the sun. What can Duncan possibly do to appease all of the crayons and get them back to doing what they do best?Kids will be imagining their own humorous conversations with crayons and coloring a blue streak after sharing laughs with Drew Daywalt and New York Times bestseller Oliver Jeffers. This story is perfectas a back-to-school gift, for all budding artists, for fans of humorous books such asDon't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Sciezka and Lane Smith, and for fans of Oliver Jeffers'Stuck, The Incredible Book Eating Boy, Lost and Found, and This Moose Belongs to Me.

This is a book about a box of crayons that write letters to a boy named Duncan, going on strike because that are not particularly happy about how they are being used. Each color in the crayon box writes their own letter about how they are u satisfied with Duncan. He wanted his crayons to be happy so he decided in his next picture he would satisfy all of the crayons but creating a very colorful picture using all of them

Each color is writing a persuasive letter to the owner about something that has been on their mind. These things include, being used too much, not being used enough, and even being used to color things they do not want to color! The Day the Crayons Quit is a hilarious story that my students absolutely adore. The story follows a frustrated box of crayons. The crayons do not like how their owner, a boy named Duncan, has been using them. Each crayon gives a different reason for why they must quit.

“The Day the Crayons Quit“ is a cute imaginative story about a child's crayons. Each crayon writes him a letter from their point of view expressing their feelings and emotions about how they are being used. Some letters are funny, and some are sad, but this would be perfect for a lower-grade classroom. This story won an E.B. White Award.

This story takes on a humorous tone as a young boy named Duncan finds that each color in the crayon box has written him a letter. The crayons each explain that they will be going on strike because they do not like the way they are being used. This makes Duncan use his imagination to solve this problem and use colors in a whole new way.

Published in 2013. The Day the Crayons Quit is about a crayon box that writes letters to their owner telling him they want to be used more. Each crayon comes up with arguments about why they should be used. In the end the owner uses every crayon in one coloring photo and gets an A+ from the teacher. I would love to use this book in my classroom because it is super funny and could be used to teach a lesson about working together.

This book went through all of the crayons and they each explained how they were tired of just being used to draw the same thing and then never to be used again. They wrote notes to the owner of the crayons and eventually at the end of the book he realized he should use them for all sorts of things not just their specific color! This book won the E.B. Dear Duncan, I quit. This precious F children‘s book is about all of the crayons writing a strongly worded letter to Duncan.. and boy are they upset. This book will keep the children and intrigued and laughing the entire time! It makes a great RA! #ucflae3414su20

bsiqueira https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/day-crayons-quit This resource provides numerous activities that cover vocabulary, memory, and even a guide for parents and families! The UDL strategy that would align with this is 5.2 “Use multiple tools for construction and compositions” in order to complete all of the activities. Followed by ESOL 7 “Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, body language, and facial expressions.” 4y

This Low Fantasy Fiction book is about some very animated and frustrated crayons collectively voicing their concerns through letters of protest to their owner Duncan. I‘d mix this up by having students take turns in a choral shared reading activity with my future students to fit UDL guideline fostering collaboration and community (8.3). #ucflae3414sp20

The Day the Crayons Quit is MF by Drew Daywalt. Duncan comes home and sees his crayons wrote to him, each complaining about their treatment. The story ends with Duncan wanting them to be happy, so he colors a picture. Looking closely at it, he used the crayons just how they asked in the letters. After we read this in class, I told my boyfriend about how funny it was so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to read it to him. #UCFLAE3414SP20

Agavitt1 This is good for RA but I think it would be fun to use as RT as well, especially with higher grade levels so students can have a lot of fun with it, and engage in some sassy crayon behavior. https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/day-crayons-quit is a resource with a lot of different activities to use for this book.

Agavitt1 UDL Principle 3.2 Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships: The story shows relationships Duncan has with his crayons and them expressing their ideas. It provides a healthy but fun approach to students being able to have these conversations.
ESOL strategy 6. Continually monitor students‘ comprehension: All students should be able to enjoy a fun story. Speaking clearly and slow enough allowing time for comprehension.

juliap99 The EL strategy I chose to go with this book is “encourage the use of diagrams and drawings as aids to identify concepts and seeing relationships”.
