"The Warlord of Mars" is a science fantasy novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the third of his famous Barsoom series. Burroughs began writing it in June, 1913, going through five working titles; "Yellow Men of Barsoom", "The Fighting Prince of Mars", "Across Savage Mars", "The Prince of Helium", and "The War Lord of Mars". The finished story was first published in "All-Story Magazine" as a four-part serial in the issues for December, 1913-March, 1914. It was later published as a complete novel by A. C. McClurg in September, 1919.

"Only this poisoned spear pricking the heart of a sith can kill it quickly enough to save its prey. In this section of Kaol we are all armed with a long sith spear, whose point is smeared with the poison of the creature it is intended to kill: no other virus acts so quickly upon the beast as its own."
Different sith but perhaps the malignity of the Dark Side poisons a Sith Lord as surely as the Barsoomian sith contains the source of its own death

“Only Woola, my Martian hound, accompanied me.

At my heels tonight the faithful beast moved softly in my tracks. As large as a Shetland pony, with hideous head and frightful fangs, he was indeed an awesome spectacle, as he crept after me on his ten short, muscular legs; but to me he was the embodiment of love and loyalty."

#QuotsyMarch18: When things happen all of a #Sudden, I take comfort in this lovely Burroughs quote. A lot of upheavals, readjustments going on in the work place with so many colleagues moving on to other universities in other countries. I hope the “unguessed ability” to meet these changing conditions is spot-on. 👩🏽‍💻👩🏻‍🏫🤓📚
