Mr. Matisse and His Cutouts
Mr. Matisse and His Cutouts | Annemarie Van Haeringen
5 posts | 6 read | 12 to read
Mr. Matisse is a painter with "the sun in his tummy." His colors make everyone happy. But one day he becomes ill and has to have a major operation. When he wakes up in a white hospital room, he misses his colors. 'Bring my brushes! Bring my paint!' But the sheets are not smooth and taut like canvas. And the walls and ceiling are too far away. What will he do now?

Pickpick

I knew Matisse was a painter. Until this book I had no idea that he was a collagist. Due to an illness Matisse had to change his form of art. News to me. And I think interesting to others as well.

Abailliekaras There was a beautiful exhibition at Tate Modern last year of his 'cut-outs'. Joyous work. 🎨 8y
BookishMarginalia I loved this book! Plus it emphasizes that wheelchair-bound people can be creative and active. 8y

Beautiful illustrations teach kids (and adults) that the creative process of art is adaptable: when Matisse becomes ill --bedridden and then wheelchair-bound-- and can't paint, he takes up paper cuttting to create beautiful works of art. #NetGalley #diversereads

Mehso-so

Cute introduction to Matisse and his cutouts. I for one was not aware that it started when he was in the hospital recuperating.
