In May of 1964, eleven-year-old Etta McDaniel's horse is struck by lightning--dead and gone, she hopes--out of her life "as though he'd never come in the first place, bringing with him one catastrophe after another." But Troy, gruesomely scarred, not only survives but seems to have gained supernatural powers, which Etta sets her mind on harnessing in her search for treasure. She is convinced that a find of the sort her hero Heinrich Schliemann unearthed at ancient Troy will set to rights everything suddenly gone wrong in her life: rivalry and betrayal at home and social unrest reaching even her family's farm.

OMG!!!! Thank you for all my goodies @tpixie !!!! I love everything! I don‘t have any of the books and love all the goodies!! I can‘t believe you found an adult novel about a horse! There aren‘t many! I love everything! #HalloweenGoesPostal @BookishMarginalia

tpixie Hope you enjoy them! I haven‘t read any of the books...the horse one looked intriguing. If you don‘t have a bath you still might be able to use those bath salts in the shower if you put a little olive oil/coconut oil in them!! I had fun picking things out for you!! 🦊🎃 ⭐️ 🐴 (edited) 6y
tpixie Lol and I hope the chocolate survived!! 6y
Meghan1 @tpixie the chocolate arrived safely and I have already helped myself. I do have a wonderful, big garden tub in my house, so I was really excited to see the bath salts. I have also never owned a book sleeve! It is so cute! I am going to put the lights on my desk in my school library and the scarf is awesome. So are the socks; I love fun socks. Basically, opening that package felt like opening something from someone I know really well! 6y
tpixie @Meghan1 glad it made you feel good! It was a fun exchange! I‘m using a book sleeve for my #CoverToCover Book exchange so I don‘t ruin the other people‘s books. Enjoying it. I thought the fox one looked like a good fall theme- and not too Halloween-y so you would feel comfortable using it other times of the year. Have a great night! 🎃📚🦊🐴 (edited) 6y

Pickpick

Coming of age story. Etta wants to be an archaeologist but believes that her horse, Troy, is trying to keep her from discovering things in a nearby field. She is convinced the horse has supernatural powers since it's done something bad to another child and then was struck by lightning and lived.

Slow start. Better once things weren't focused on the horse.
