Lake District Murder: A British Library Crime Classic
Lake District Murder: A British Library Crime Classic | John Bude
5 posts | 9 read | 3 to read
Luke flung the light of his torch full onto the face of the immobile figure. Then he had the shock of his life. The man had no face! Where his face should have been was a sort of inhuman, uniform blank! When a body is found at an isolated garage, Inspector Meredith is drawn into a complex investigation where every clue leads to another puzzle: was this a suicide, or something more sinister? Why was the dead man planning to flee the country? And how is this connected to the shady business dealings of the garage? This classic mystery novel is set amidst the stunning scenery of a small village in the Lake District. It is now republished for the first time since the 1930s with an introduction by the award-winning crime writer Martin Edwards."

I liked this story because it focused on people who live in a touristy area all year round. That's me, too!

Mehso-so

I ended up almost shouting at the book at one point for the detective being so dense. C'mon, guys, the idea of the tanker taking up something instead of dispensing really isn't hard... also, the breaking of the alibi was far too obvious. Bude's not a bad writer, but not bowling me over either.

New flat has a bath, so I've been having a cosy afternoon after a walk round the park. Am rather wondering how this one comes together...

Some location appropriate #holidayreading courtesy of the British Library Crime Classics series. Love the covers on these - such handsome looking books. And great to rediscover 'lost' Golden Age crime writers!

Hooked_on_books Great bookmark! 😜 8y
