Ketchup Is My Favorite Vegetable: A Family Grows Up with Autism | Liane Kupferberg Carter
1 post | 1 reading
How do you create an ordinary family life, while dealing with the extraordinary needs of an autistic child? Meet Mickey - charming, funny, compassionate, and autistic. In this unflinching portrait of family life, Liane Kupferberg Carter gives us a mother's insight into what "really" goes on in the two decades after diagnosis. From the double-blow of a subsequent epilepsy diagnosis, to bullying and Bar Mitzvahs, Mickey's struggles and triumphs along the road to adulthood are honestly detailed to show how one family learned to grow and thrive with autism.

Littens- Help!!

Last night I dropped my iPhone 6S in ketchup and I cleaned out the best I could. However, today I realized the audio is messed up.

Is there anyway to fix this? I've only had this phone for 5 months.

AmbityScambity I haven't found a way to remedy the audio. Do you have insurance on it? That's what I've had to do in the past. 7y
saresmoore Bummer! Try submerging it in a bowl of uncooked rice for several hours. That can sometimes absorb the moisture that may have leaked in. Otherwise, Apple Care is your friend! (edited) 7y
MyNamesParadise @AmbityScambity yes I do have insurance through Verizon- my cellular carrier. 7y

MyNamesParadise @saresmoore I don't think I have Apple Care on my iPhone :( but I have insurance through Verizon. Like uncooked white rice? 7y
saresmoore Yep! And Verizon insurance should definitely be able to help. 7y
Cinfhen Yes to what @saresmoore said rice really works...good luck 🍀 7y
MyNamesParadise @Cinfhen @saresmoore my friend brought me a bag of rice, so what exactly do i do? 7y
saresmoore Just pour the dry rice in a bowl or pot and bury the phone in it. Or I guess you could even just put the phone into the bag of rice, just make sure it's covered/surrounded and the rice will do the work of absorption. It sounds weird, but it works! 7y
Cinfhen Keep us posted, and be patient give it several hours!!! 7y
GypsyKat Oh no! Ketchup is acidic! I hope it didn't damage your phone for good! 7y
melbeautyandbooks So sorry. Hoping the rice works for you. 7y
MyNamesParadise @Cinfhen @saresmoore am I suppose to take my phone out of its case? It's fitted really close to my phone. I'm not sure the rice got the close contact it needed. Ugh. 7y
saresmoore Oh darn! Yeah, probably removing the case would help. But it might just be time to call in the insurance. 7y
Cinfhen Once again, I need to second the oh so wise @saresmoore 7y
MyNamesParadise Thank you everyone! @saresmoore @cinfhen it's really hard to get the case off so I put my propped my phone upside down and put so,e rice since it's a thick case and there's room for rice to fit in and I'm going to leave it like that for a while. I also have an iPad so mainly it's watching videos that's affected on the phone. It's still understandable it's just higher pitched now! (edited) 7y
Gezemice I have dropped my iPhone into the toilet once (thank goodness it was clean!), and the rice trick worked - mostly. The microphone is damaged, I think. I can make calls and play audio, but if I ask Siri ANYTHING - she will start Facetiming random people in my phonebook. Or play random country music. Which I never listen to and certainly do not have on my phone... I am ok with that, I don't use Siri anyway. 7y
MyNamesParadise @Gezemice my case is so tight to the phone I didn't want to risk doing more damage. Ketchup is acidic so that may be why the rice didn't work. I'm not sure. It's only off slightly if I do speaker phone. I have an iPad thankfully where if I watch any videos, etc I would use that, it just frustrates me bc I've only had the phone 5 months & this is the second dumb thing I've done to it! 7y
