This book was incredible - it‘s a very simple premise, it‘s also an Instagram account and I had an amazing time reading through and admiring all the homes!

I‘m also off to explore the National Trust property - Labassa - that was featured next month - so expect more house photos towards the end of April.

(The caption of this photo reads : some see well-behaved ivy, some see Saturday Night Fever)

merelybookish Lol. Took me a minute but I can see 🕺 1mo

It‘s a legal requirement to include at least one The Castle (1997) reference in all books about Australian homes.

If you aren‘t a local - The Castle is one of THE best Australian films of all time - it‘s incredibly quotable film and features a young Eric Bana in a small but memorable role (he‘s the kickboxing obsessed son in law)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

CarolynM I know where that house is, I‘ve walked past it many times😆 I‘m not a fan of The Castle, though, sorry☹️ 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM 🤣 what‘s your favourite Aussie film? 1mo
CarolynM I‘ve honestly never thought about it. There are lots of good ones. Look Both Ways was terrific, for comedy maybe Malcolm. And I love Richard Roxburgh in Children of the Revolution 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM, 3 I haven‘t seen! Richard Roxburgh is amazing tho. Mine include The Castle, Limbo & Strictly Ballroom. 1mo

Not the Clifton Hill Macca‘s getting included in a book called “other people‘s HOMES”

Did a quick google and after I‘d finished laughing about google‘s claim that it‘s a place that “serves vegetarian dishes” 🍟 I read that this originally opened in 1938 as the “United Kingdom Hotel” (a pub) and was converted into a MacDonald‘s in 1988. Its heritage listed - and is considered to be one the thirteen most beautiful MacDonalds in the world.

CarolynM That‘s my local Macca‘s. I admire it every time I walk or drive past 🙂 It‘s a long time since I‘ve been in it, thankfully😆 1mo
CarolynM Fun fact, there‘s a psychology practice that operates in that building too. 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM, it‘s beautiful. A psychology office and a MacDonald‘s - wonder what the original architect would think of that! 1mo

I‘m quite partial to a bit of pink

Finally one that I could admire in person, I don‘t think Sunshine is that far away from me 🤔

Built in 1939, LOOK AT THAT CASTELLATED ROOFLINE 😍 I would love to live in a round apartment.

This is the Chatsbury building in Elizabeth Bay, NSW

I love this so much- but am also concerned about how secure those pot plants are? 🪴

Ruthiella The only problem with round rooms is it‘s hard to get bookshelves for them. 😃 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Ruthiella, hard but not impossible - I‘d make it work! 1mo
CarolynM Oh wow! I love a bit of modernist architecture 😍 1mo

tpixie The the 1st one is an article with photos & the second one is the video I was looking for- inside a domed apartment in Paris! (edited) 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM, I‘m so glad I found this book at the library - it‘s a delight! 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @tpixie - she needs some custom built furniture. I think you could do a lot with a round room. Thanks for the link, very interesting! 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @tpixie - watching the video makes me long to go travelling again! Seeing the view from the top was stunning! Would make the stairs worth it! 1mo
tpixie @thegirlwiththelibrarybag yes! A very fun apartment!!! 1mo

I‘m reading this, stretched out on my bed in front of a sunny window…

CarolynM And again😍 1mo
tpixie Great windows!! Would have to have short bookshelves circling around under the windows! 🪟📕🪟 1mo

I‘d happily swap smashed avo for owning a little green home 💚

Couldn‘t resist picking up this book of quirky Australian suburban homes from the library. Really looking forward to reading through it (and posting pics of my favourites)

CarolynM I love walking around the inner city streets for just this reason! All sorts of odd little houses😆 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM, I miss the odd little house I grew up in (in Balwyn North), it‘s a shame that new builds are often architecturally dull. 1mo
tpixie This is amazing. My brother in Law was an architect, he always built flat roofs for their homes- more efficient square footage. The neighbors always had a hard time getting used to looking at them ( they look like banks, not homes! But both ended up in magazines! 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @tpixie, I‘m on the top floor of an apartment building (I say top, there is a ground floor & a first floor) with a flat roof - and it‘s been an adjustment - I‘ve been startled awake by possums doing middle of the night gymnastics, seemingly directly over my bed. My favourite sound has been the patter of rain, it‘s much louder and quite delightful. That‘s so cool that your BIL had his houses in magazines 🏠 1mo
