Hellboy Volume 1: Seed of Destruction (Revised)
Hellboy Volume 1: Seed of Destruction (Revised) | Mike Mignola, John Byrne, Michael Mignola
12 posts | 46 read | 6 to read
Dark Horse presents new editions of the entire "Hellboy" line with new covers, beginning with "Seed of Destruction," the basis of director Guillermo del Toro's blockbuster films. "Hellboy" is one of the most celebrated comics series in recent years. The ultimate artists' artist and a great storyteller whose work is in turns haunting, hilarious, and spellbinding. Mike Mignola has won numerous awards in the comics industry and beyond. When strangeness threatens to engulf the world, a strange man will come to save it. Sent to investigate a mystery with supernatural overtones, Hellboy discovers the secrets of his own origins, and his link to the Nazi occultists who promised Hitler a final solution in the form of a demonic avatar. " ... Hellboy is a brilliant example of how to elevate the comic of the future to a higher literary level while achieving a higher pitch of excitement." --Robert Bloch, from his introduction

I‘ve been a fan of Hellboy on the big screen since I first saw the 2k4 movie. Though this is my first graphic novel. The story is dark (both in art and plot line), which only adds to the story. I loved the envision of the first part of how HB came to earth. The writer does a great job between how The character actually speak, and what they think. Abe and Liz were here, but wish they were bigger. This really felt like it a setup to reintroduce HB

Shockingly dull read. I love Hellboy as a film character, and was pointed to this volume when I asked for an entry point to the comics. There is no character development; those who _haven‘t_ seen the film would likely be lost. Without character the charm of the story dissipates to Rasputin waxing monotonously, and a gesture towards action. I‘ll stick to the films from here.

With news of the new movie becoming more and more frequent I decided that it was time to revisit this series again. It helps that ComiXology has all of the omnibus's on sale right now for 5 bucks a pop! 👍

Anyways, Vol. 1 has always been a little bit on the weaker side for me - but I actually enjoyed it more this time then I have in the past.

Its still monologue heavy - but a fun hint at what is to come nonetheless. 😊

I finally got my hands on this Hellboy, plus I had to get back into Doctor Strange. Then at the register there were enamel pins from Locke and Key!!! I had to get the moon key!

I'm enjoying my first Hellboy comic so far! I have all of the actors' voices playing in my head as I read...and I have to say Ron Pearlman was pretty perfect.

I'm very lucky to have friends who lend me awesome comics. I've never known many good comics and that world is quite foreign to me, so having my experience widened is great :)

My idea of holiday spirit at work is putting a Santa head on my Hellboy figurine.

I've always been a fan of Hellboy after watching the movies. But I've wanted to read the comics and this volume only made me want to read the rest of it as soon as possible.
