In this riveting thriller from a new master of suspense, a young dancer's homecoming is marred by a grisly discovery--and the realization that nothing in her past may be quite what she believed. When Esm Foster left the Boston suburbs to become a professional ballerina, the future shimmered with promise. Eleven years later, her career has been derailed by an injury, and Esme knows it's time to come back to Graybridge to help her brother care for their ailing father. But her return coincides with an unthinkable crime. Kara Cunningham, one of Esme's high school friends, is found dead in the woods behind the Fosters' house. Esm is shocked and grieving, but also uneasy. In her dreams, she still sees the man who showed up at the scene of the car accident that killed her mother--and told Esm he was going to kill her too. Family and friends insisted the figure was a product of Esm's imagination, that she was concussed after the crash. But she and Kara looked alike, sharing the same petite build, the same hair color. Could Kara's murder have been a case of mistaken identity? Detective Rita Myers is familiar with close-knit communities like Graybridge, where, beneath the friendliness, there are whispers and secrets. The town has seen other tragedies too, including the long-ago drowning of a young girl in a pond, deep in the woods. Even within the once-close circle of friends that included Kara and Esm, Rita discerns a ripple of mistrust. Day by day, Esm discovers more about the place she left behind--and the friends and family she thought she knew. Soon, shining a light into the darkness to learn what really happened the night Kara died is the only way she can bring the nightmare to an end . . .

Whenever I write about a book where the character goes back home…I always have the same song go through my head….I‘m Coming Home by Skylar Grey. So, yeah, another book about coming back to your hometown with a murder thrown to spice things up. While I didn‘t love this one like the first Rita Myers book, it was still noteworthy. I love how this author adds some real emotion to her character's story it makes everything so much more relatable.

AudiobookingWithLeah Narration: Christina Moore is back as Rita Myers and she voices her perfectly. Leah Horowitz as Esme felt exactly right for her part, also. The narration for this series has been exceptionally cast.

Mmm it was ok, it all played out pretty plainly in the end.

But nothing to get too excited over.

Her ballet career derailed by injury, a once-promising young dancer returns to her hometown only to face a grisly discovery – and the increasingly alarming realization that nothing from her past is quite what she believed – in this electrifyingly twisty suburban thriller for fans of Stacy Willingham, Greer Hendricks, and Megan Miranda.

Esmé returns home 2 her small town 2 find her HS BFF has been murdered outside her yard in the woods. Det. Rita Myers is in charge of the case & struggles 2 find leads.

Told in dual POV, it allows us to gain insight that would have been missed w/only one POV. Even so, I still kept changing my mind on who I thought did it! I think everything unfolded perfectly, making it hard 2 know who 2 trust & keeping me turning the pages 2 find out the truth.
