Eve In Overdrive
Eve In Overdrive | Faith Gardner
2 posts | 2 read
An edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller novella.
When an outspoken writer buys the car of her dreams, it turns into a full-speed nightmare.
Eve Alexopoulos is a journalist, but you’d be better off calling her what she really is: a professional troll-hunter. For a couple of years now, her column “What’s Your Problem, Bro?” has been exposing some of the most outrageous online trolls to hold them publicly accountable for their abusive behavior.
Her column has been so successful, she got a fat book advance—one big enough to afford a Sunray, the most cutting-edge vehicle available. Sleek, self-driving, solar-powered, with every car custom-programmed by an engineer at the tech goliath company Jolvix.
Too bad the engineer who programmed her new Sunray isn’t a big fan of Eve’s work.
Because now her life’s about to make a sharp U-turn into unthinkable terror.
Eve in Overdrive is one of the Jolvix Episodes, standalone psychological thrillers set in the same universe.

Eve writes a column which goes after online trolls. Called “What‘s Your Problem, Bro?” it exposes misogynistic & abusive behaviour, & it has been very successful. Eve is about to take delivery of a new top-of-the-range, self-driving solar-powered car - the Sunray, programmed by Jolvix. As Eve leaves the showroom in her new car, the car's system is taken over by an engineer who is definitely not a fan of Eve's work. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf Ever since self-drive cars were announced as a possibility, I've wondered about people hacking them & causing mayhem. This is a novella of about 100 pages & the action starts pretty much straight away as Eve is held hostage in her luxury car at the whim of an angry man. The narrative deals with the fact that trolls feel empowered to bully others behind the safety of anonymity & don't like it when the tables are turned. 5mo
OutsmartYourShelf I liked the odd touches of future technology with 'Mr Droidburger', a fast-food outlet staffed entirely by robots - makes you consider where we are heading.

I enjoyed this one, not as much as Amen Maxine, but it's not fair to compare them really as a full-length novel versus a novella. Looking forward to reading the rest of the Jolvix universe books. 3.5🌟

Short stories don‘t always work for me. They either aren‘t developed enough or completely flop the ending. This didn‘t do either of those. I was actually able to get to know the MC and I found myself thinking that I kind of liked her. I mean she has her flaws, but who doesn‘t...and at least she had some growth. While it did have some slight OTT at times it did make up for it by delivering a proper ending. ⬇⬇⬇

AudiobookingWithLeah This series can be read in any order and each story is separate from the others. So…if you haven‘t tried any of Jolvix Episodes, this could be a good place to start. 14mo
