The Killing Tide
The Killing Tide | Lin Anderson
2 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
'A cracking story told at breakneck speed' Scotland on Sunday The Killing Tide by Lin Anderson sees forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod investigating a mysterious abandoned ship which has swept ashore in the Orkney Isles. After a fierce storm hits Scotland, a mysterious cargo ship is discovered in the Orkney Isles. Boarding the vessel uncovers three bodies, recently deceased and in violent circumstances. Forensic scientist Dr Rhona MacLeods study of the crime scene suggests that a sinister game was being played on board, but who were the hunters? And who the hunted? Meanwhile in Glasgow DS Michael McNab is called to a horrific incident where a young woman has been set on fire. Or did she spark the flames herself? As evidence arises that connects the two cases, the team grow increasingly concerned that the truth of what happened on the ship and in Glasgow hints at a wider conspiracy that stretches down to London and beyond to a global stage. Orcadian Ava Clouston, renowned investigative journalist, believes so and sets out to prove it, putting herself in grave danger. When the Met Police challenge Police Scotlands jurisdiction, it becomes obvious that there are ruthless individuals who are willing to do whatever it takes to protect government interests. Which could lead to even more deaths on Scottish soil . . .

A strange one, and yes of course I‘m starting at number 16 in the series. I found this quite gripping and very listenable to. A ghost ship washes up on Orkney - no-one could imagine the scenes found inside. The settings and characters were great and the plot was certainly original. There were bits of writing that came over odd on audio, in the dialogue. And the gruesome level was quite high. On the whole, though, I enjoyed this and will read more.

rockpools This was no. 5 in my #christmascrimechallenge . I won‘t manage to clear the board, but I have read lots more than I expected to, (I mean, I got a whole line!) and had fun with it. Thanks for putting this together @Ruthiella @RaeLovesToRead 2w

Life is giving me a right old drubbing right now. My attempt at a locked room mystery required more brain cells than I have available. But the first 30 minutes of this seem to be very listenable to, so I‘m giving Lin Anderson a go. We‘re on Orkney and in Glasgow. I‘m just hoping it doesn‘t get too graphic/grim. (If anyone‘s read her novels & could give me a gore rating, I‘d be grateful). For now tho‘: Tartan #Noir for #ChristmasCrimeChallenge

Ruthiella Hope life starts treating you better soon. ❤️ I usually just trust that mysteries will make sense at some point and they usually do. 🎄🔪🎅🏻💀 4w
rockpools @Ruthiella There is that. I think it was too slow with too many characters for me to follow it right now. This one I think is faster and more character-driven. We‘ll see! I‘m really enjoying the challenge though - I haven‘t stuck with a book challenge this far for months/years! 4w
